JAY-Z AND BEYONCE WEDDING RUMORS RESURFACE

Since Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles hooked up in 2002 rumors have surfaced routinely that the two were getting engaged and planning a wedding. Last December when Beyonce planned a special Caribbean getaway for Jay-Z’s birthday, people began to speculate that the birthday party was really just a cover for a wedding. The latest report from a UK tabloid is that Jay-Z proposed to Beyonce in France last week and that the two will be wed in Hawaii this fall.

According to the News of the World, Jay-Z promised Beyonce “the biggest diamond she can fit on her finger” once she picks out the design.

In related news, Beyonce will launch her North American tour on July 6th at the Superdome in New Orleans.

TYLER PERRY MISSES WITH HOUSE OF PAYNE

Inferior acting, poor staging and weak story lines doom this new TBS television series. What a shame because the Tyler Perry enterprise has been so successful. What ever magic Perry has is lost on this show full of tired one-liners and flubbed lines. I don’t mean to diss black actors, but in order for this program to survive, it’s desparetely in need of a major overhaul…RIGHT AWAY. I watched in support of Perry, but that was the only reason. I’ll give them a try next week, but after watching two back-to-back episodes, I don’t know if I can stand the Payne.

CIARA, T.I. TO HEADLINE THIS YEAR’S SCREAM TOUR

R&B pop princess Ciara and smooth rapper T.I. are slated as the headliners for this summer’s Screamfest ‘07 tour, according to organizers. The tour is expected to kick off July 24th. Dates, cities, and other performers for the annual trek will be announced next week.

Ciara is busy promoting material from her new album Ciara: The Evolution, featuring the single “Like A Boy.” She will also have to complete principal photography on the screen version of Mama I Want To Sing in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, before hitting the road.

T.I.’s new CD, T.I. Vs. T.I.P., drops July 3rd and features the single “Big Things Poppin’,” with a second single called “You Know What It Is” due shortly. He’ll also appear on the big screen this fall in American Gangster.

Recently the ATL star explained that the new CD will be even better than his smash 2005 effort King, and that he continues to challenge himself on all levels: “Everybody wants to be better, nobody wants to feel like at 26 or 25 that they’ve peaked. You know what I’m saying? But that’s just something that motivates and inspires me to work harder, that’s natural, I mean that’s like, I feel like it’s healthy. If I didn’t feel like that I wouldn’t make a better album than King, there wouldn’t be a possibility of me doing better in a movie as I did in ATL. ”

KELLY ROWLAND SAYS SHE FOUND HER WAY ON ‘MS. KELLY’

Singer Kelly Rowland comes into her own as a solo performer and songwriter on her upcoming sophomore set, Ms. Kelly. The lead-off single, “Like This” featuring Eve, is already at Number 13 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The album is due July 3rd.

Rowland says that the album’s release date had to be pushed back from 2006 while she refocused its sound. The club-ready lead single as well as an up- tempo tune titled “Come Back” are two tracks that were added to the mix.

“It was dragging too much,” Rowland told Billboard about an earlier version of the CD. “I tend to go for mid-tempos and ballads. But I thought, ‘I’ve got to speed this up. I’m 25, not a homebody. I can still shake a tail feather.”‘

While her 2002 solo debut Simply Deep spun off five singles and earned her a Grammy for the single “Dilemma” featuring Nelly, Rowland says that first album found her “searching” for a direction. Not so with Ms. Kelly.

“This album is very personal,” added the Destiny’s Child alum. “What I wanted to say, what producers and writers I wanted to work with; it was everything coming from me. I found my way with this record.”

Rowland will make several TV appearances in the coming month to promote the new set, including a performance on the ‘07 BET Awards, set for June 26th. She will also perform at the Essence Music Festival during July 4th weekend in New Orleans.

PARIS BENNETT SAYS SHE LOVES HER DRAG QUEEN IMPERSONATORS

Paris Bennett has been busy of late promoting her debut CD Princess P to as many demographics as she can. The pint-sized American Idol finalist performed her single “Ordinary Love” last weekend on Gay Day at Paramount’s Great America in Mountain View, California.

Bennett — whose Grammy-winning grandmother Ann Nesby is a gay icon — says she values all of her fans and knew she’d made it when she found out she had not one, but three drag impersonators. “There are two in St. Louis and one in Minnesota — he used to be my best friend when he was a boy, now he’s Miss Dominique Savage,” Bennett explained to Gay.com. “If you have a drag impersonator, that means you’ve made it. It means you’re famous. Number One singles, videos on a countdown, awards … They have nothing on having a drag queen impersonate you!”

Bennett says that while she learned a lot about performing from her mother and grandmother, she put it into practice weekly during season five of American Idol. Her best lesson? The show must go on.

She said: “I can’t afford not to give you my hundred percent because I live, sleep, eat, and dream this thing, this career, this entertainment. I can be sick and will be on stage and you’ll never know I’m sick ’cause I don’t let it affect me, ’cause I’ll still give you the same show you came and saw the night before. On tour I had one sick night, and I went to the doctor and I got a B-12 (shot), went on stage and had a fever out of this world, and still gave a show.”

DR. IAN SMITH HOSTS BET TALK SHOW, CONTINUES ON ‘CELEBRITY FIT CLUB’

Health expert Dr. Ian Smith, known for his best-selling Fat Smash Diet books and as a panelist for VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club, has added a new gig to his schedule. The popular medical hunk is the new host for the second season of Meet The Faith on the BET network.

Now expanded to an hour, Meet The Faith covers a variety of topics of interest to African Americans, from entertainment and sports to health, politics, global concerns and social issues. Smith leads the hour with provocative guests and experts to discuss and debate the issues.

The new season of Meet The Faith premiered on Sunday (June 3rd) and continues every Sunday at 11 a.m. on BET.

Smith has also been the doctor on call for the reality weight-loss competition Celebrity Fit Club, now in its fifth season. This season the eight contestants include American Idol finalist Kimberly Locke, hip-hop artists Da Brat and Warren G, and The Brady Bunch’s Maureen McCormick. Every season seems to have its controversial contestant, and this season it’s been Dustin Diamond from Saved By The Bell.

Diamond’s insistence on eating what he wants to eat and insulting his castmates has tried everyone’s patience, including Smith’s. But the Connecticut-born doctor says he never gives up on anyone in the cast: “This season with Dustin Diamond, who played Screech on Saved By The Bell, who has cast himself as to be the — almost the anti-Christ this season, I will say it’s not that I gave up on him. But I realized that my efforts to give him the information and tools that were important for him to lose weight and be successful after the show, my efforts were pretty much in vain because he didn’t want to do it. And my grandfather would always say you can bring a horse to the trough but you can’t make him drink. “
