BRANDY’S E! TRUE HOLLYWOOD STORY On TV
brandy.jpg

Brandy was the subject of an E! True Hollywood Story this past Saturday. Former Moesha castmates and her celebrity friends, chime in on Brandy’s success and personal tragedies throughout her 14 year career.
Karu F. Daniels from the BV Newswire typed up some highlights from the show, and here they are.

Moesha co-star Sheryl Lee Ralph on the fatal car accident - “I do not believe that Brandy got up, got in her car with the intention to hit somebody.”

Moesha co-star Countess Vaughn on rumors of her fighting with Brandy - “What really pissed me off was because we were 15 years old, and these adults were coming in on an argument that would’ve blown over, but it didn’t because of the outside and the media.”

Sheryl Lee Ralph on Brandy’s breakdown - “She just flat passed out. She was exhausted. She just passed out. That was it, boom.”

Shar Jackson on tragic death of co-star Lamont Bentley in 2005 - “Losing Lamont, we’re still not through that.”

Meanwhile the rumor mill continues to swirl: It all started with an item on Internet gossip site Hollyscoop.com that claimed R&B stars-turned-actors Tyrese Gibson and Brandy were engaged.

The Web site claimed they had been seeing each other secretly on-and-off for years, and that “Tyrese popped the question at a party held at Brandy’s house two weekends ago. Brandy was hosting a baby shower for a friend at her house when Tyrese made a surprise appearance only to ask Brandy for her hand in marriage.”

Publicists for both artists have been busy denying the story ever since it was posted on Tuesday (Jun 19).

50 CENT LANDS ROLE IN NEW DENIRO-PACINO MOVIE
50-cent.jpg

Rapper 50 Cent has landed a role in Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino’s forthcoming movie, Righteous Kill. New York’s Daily News reports that 50 Cent will play a drug dealer in the movie, which isn’t a stretch for the rapper who began dealing drugs on the streets of Jamaica, Queens at the age of 12. Shooting is scheduled to begin on August 6th in Connecticut. The movie is expected to hit theaters in 2008.

50 Cent has already signed on to star in another movie with Robert DeNiro, titled New Orleans, in which both he and DeNiro will play cops.

The rapper is also set to co-star opposite Nicholas Cage in the boxing movie, The Dance. The boxing film will be based on the life of Billy “The Kid” Roth, a former champion who spent almost 45 years as a volunteer boxing coach and father figure in Louisiana’s state prison system. Cage will play Roth, while 50 Cent will play a boxer who is serving a life sentence.

In related news, 50 Cent’s new album, Curtis, will hit stores in September. The first single from the project was “Straight To The Bank.” 50 Cent explained how the song fit into the overall theme of the new album. He said: “Overall the concept was for me to make the record human. You know so I wanted to put human emotions on the record at different periods cause people might enjoy that music while they’re in that actual space or mind frame. So the first song I released was ‘Straight To The Bank,’ and it embodied laughter and joy.”

SWIZZ BEATZ CAN’T STOP RECORDING
swizz-beatz.jpg

Producer-turned-rapper Swizz Beatz was initially scheduled to release his album, One Man Band Man, this spring but the set has since been pushed back to August 21st. The producer is finding it hard to stop recording because more and more of his peers have approached him about getting on the album.

Swizz Beatz told MTV.com, “I wrap up every week on my album. It’s just not over till it’s over. Every week my album gets more and more crazier. I started my project saying, ‘I don’t want no (guests) on my project.’ The reason I said that is because I didn’t want to beg anybody for anything. Now with my songs out, I’m getting approached from people I respect. People I thought was too busy to work on the album, they giving me stuff. … Do I tell these people no? Now I’m just regrouping and trying to make the right decisions because there are a lot of people who liked the idea of me not doing a lot of (collaborations) on my album. I want to stick to that but still finesse it with the people that’s coming in. I got a real supportive team with my fellow producers and artists.”

Swizz Beatz recently added a verse from E-40 to the album and he still working in a T.I. guest spot. He explained, “The list goes on and on. It just has to make sense. I was thinking about putting E-40 on (the remix) to ‘Money in the Bank’ since the beat got the Bay Area movement to it. E-40 be snapping too. I like E-40.”

Swizz also wanted to explain that he doesn’t see himself as a rapper. He said, “My album is coming in August because I felt a lot of people get caught in the hype of the hot songs that’s out for the moment. I’m not considered a rapper yet. Me, I call myself an entertainer. Rappers are Nas, Hov, Jadakiss, Cassidy. I’m just being an entertainer, saying what I feel, doing what I like and being creative. I felt the people need to hear me on more than one hit. ‘He got the joint for the club, the cool joints, the vibe joints.’ I didn’t even get to the Coldplay joint (the group appears on the LP) or to where I’m really talking crazy.”

The album will feature guest appearances by Cassidy, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, DMX, Coldplay, Kanye West, Nas, Ciara, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana and Swizz Beatz’s wife, R&B singer Mashonda.

Beatz recently released “Money In The Bank” as the follow-up to his lead single, “It’s Me Snitches.”

YOUNG BUCK LEAKS TRACK DISSING DJ KHALED
young-buck.jpg

The G-Unit/ Terror Squad beef dates back 2005 when 50 Cent dissed Fat Joe on the song, “Piggy Bank,” on his sophomore album, The Massacre. The G-Unit’s Young Buck is still feeling the effects of the beef as the Terror Squad’s DJ Khaled still doesn’t play any G-Unit Records. SOHH.com reports that Young Buck is so frustrated with the situation that he recorded a diss track aimed at the deejay.

On the song, Buck raps, “Khaled, play my s**t n***a ‘I’m the best’ / I don’t carry grudges cuz’ I get it off my chest.”

At the end of song, Buck talks over the track and says, “I tried to get your man to play my s**t. MIA want to hear my s**t. They f***ing wit you, but they f**k wit me more… I understand your situation man, being loyal to your crew. s**t I’m loyal like a motherf***er too, but a hit is a hit n***a. For you to win, You gotta play the hits. And I’m bumpin’ n***a, So play my s**t, n***a, like every other DJ!”

T-PAIN TALKS ABOUT HIS INSPIRATION
t-pain.jpg

Singer and songwriter T-Pain is getting raves for his sophomore album Epiphany, featuring his unique take on hip-hop and pop. His distinctive, self-taught sound — including his use of the Vocoder voice box — has made him popular with fellow artists as well. While he makes a cameo on R. Kelly’s “I’m a Flirt” remix, T-Pain says he has been collaborating with more than 30 other artists in the studio, including Britney Spears.

The artist, who shortened his moniker from Tallahassee Pain, says that inspiration can strike just about anywhere when it comes to making music. He said: “Wherever it comes at, man. I’ve been driving and missed turns from thinking about some new song, you know what I’m saying? It can come anywhere, man, you don’t have to be in a certain environment or certain set or mind stage, it can come to you anywhere. It can come to you in the middle of a conversation and make you stop talking.” T-Pain’s Epiphany debuted at Number One on the Billboard 200 when first released. His single “Buy U A Drank (Shawty Snappin’)” remains at Number One on the national urban airplay chart, with the tune “Bartender” featuring Akon gaining on the same chart.

Others who have expressed interest in playing include Cheadle’s Oceans 13 castmates George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon, as well as Ben Affleck, Jason Alexander, George Lopez, Mekhi Phifer, Adam Sandler and James Woods, among others.

Cheadle’s next big screen appearance will be in Talk To Me, inspired by outspoken real- life ’70s radio personality Petey Greene.

The tournament is open to anyone 21 years of age or older. Seating is limited; pre-registration is available at worldseriesofpoker.com/anteup/anteup/pdf.

Donations are not required to participate, but Ante Up For Africa participants are being asked to contribute half of their tournament winnings to the ENOUGH Project and the International Rescue Committee, organizations whose goals include raising public awareness and providing aid to the survivors of Darfur.

DR. IAN PROMISES ‘MEET THE FAITH’ WILL KEEP ON OFFERING HOT TOPICS
dr-ian-smith.jpg

Dr. Ian Smith says that for the new season of BET’s variety chat fest Meet The Faith, he has worked diligently with the producers to come up with some hot and timely topics. This Sunday, the show will focus on black homophobia, discussing whether gay rights are synonymous with civil rights and other questions.

Smith, who began his association with the show this season, explained: “I’m a co-executive producer on the show so I’m involved in all different fashions, not just hosting the show. And all these topics I’ve been involved in formulating. So it’s not just me, it’s a whole team of us that sit down, we talk about who we should have on the show, what are the topics we need to cover. So we all have our hands in it, and the idea is that it’s a team effort.”

Meet The Faith airs on Sundays at 11 a.m. on BET. Smith is busy with several TV and book projects, including sponsoring the national 50 Million Pound Challenge weight loss campaign to rally African Americans around the country to lose weight for better health.

In addition, the Fat Smash Diet author is busy at home. He and his wife Triste also welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Dashiell, back in January during the filming of VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club, which aired its fifth season finale last week.
