DES MOINES, Iowa – Heavy, wet snow and blizzard conditions hit the Plains and Midwest on Thursday, shutting down hundreds of miles of interstate highways.

Schools closed in several states, and hundreds of flights were canceled. Two people were killed when their car overturned on a slick road in North Dakota, and snowplows were pulled off the roads in the western Minnesota because of strong wind and heavy snow.

The storm moved into Iowa with rain and sleet but changed to snow around dawn.
The western part of the state was hit with a blizzard that dropped visibility to a quarter-mile or less for at least three hours. By midday, as much as a foot of snow covered the town of Atlantic.

A blizzard also hit eastern Nebraska, with a foot of snow in the Omaha area and up to 15 inches of snow expected in some areas before it dies off Friday.

Interstate 80 was closed for nearly 200 miles from York, Neb., to Des Moines; I-35 was shut down for 115 miles from Ames to Albert Lea, Minn.; and I-90 was closed from Albert Lea to the South Dakota line, about 150 miles to the west.

Pat Sinnott, who owns the Pump ’N Munch Too convenience store in Council Bluffs near the Nebraska line, said motorists had been pulling off I-80 and using her phone to call their bosses and say they wouldn’t be coming in.

Minnesota expects to get ‘pummeled’
More than 140 school districts canceled classes Thursday in Minnesota even before the heavy snow arrived.

By Friday, snowfall totals were expected to be a foot or more in southern and central Minnesota. In northeastern Minnesota, the totals could hit two feet. The weather service warned of blowing snow and possible blizzard conditions in the countryside.

“We’re going to get pummeled,” National Weather Service meteorologist Byron Paulson said.

Flights were canceled around the region. At the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, airport officials were preparing for serious disruptions after airlines nixed about 400 flights, a number that was expected to grow.

“Certainly there is a likelihood that there will be people who will spend the night in the terminal,” said airport spokesman Patrick Hogan.

Nick Cannon has been touched by an angel – Victoria’s Secret Angel Selita Ebanks, that is.

“Selita’s amazing,” the Roll Bounce star told People at the Vanity Fair Oscar party on Sunday. “She changed me – I’m no longer a player. She changed everything.”

Cannon, 26, and Ebanks, 24 (and a video diarist!), met “a while back,” Ebanks says, but a source close to Cannon says things only heated up between them in late January, when they ran into each other at a Super Bowl pre- party in Miami.

Though Ebanks jokes that she had to “clean up” Cannon’s act, he’s “made me the happiest I’ve ever been,” she told People at the launch of the Secret Embrace bra in New York City on Wednesday.

Still, she’s quick to clear up rumors that they got married in a quickie Las Vegas ceremony last month.

“I’m not married,” she said. “We’re just two young people and we’re happy. I laugh a lot and he laughs a lot and I think that’s what’s important. I support him and he supports me.”

He may soon be able to offer support in the form of acting advice: Ebanks is in talks to star in the HBO comedy pilot Whitney, about a clique of female friends in Miami.

And this just in, some interesting tid bits of information are starting to trickle in about Ms. Ebanks.

Hip hop star Young Jeezy is prepping the first release from his Corporate Thugz Entertainment label under a joint venture agreement with Def Jam Records. The rapper told me: “I mean basically, it’s a movement we been on, you know what I’m sayin’, for six, seven years now, as far as Corporate Thugz Entertainment label. I just got a situation with Def Jam for the label deal, so you can look forward to, like, U.S.D.A., my man Slick Pulla, my man Blood Raw, Diesel the Don.”

The first release will be a group project by U.S.D.A. which stands for United Streets D-Boys Of America. The group consists of Slick Pulla, Blood Raw, and Young Jeezy. Their untitled debut album will hit stores this spring. The first single from the project is “Check.”

The group will preview some of their new material while on tour with Young Jeezy who has been tapped to headline the Street Dream 2007 tour. The tour’s line-up also includes Lil Wayne.

Rapper and Diplomats leader Cam’ron recently visited the Funkmaster Flex show on New York’s WQHT where he addressed several of his beefs and his current label situation. reports that when he was asked about his beef with 50 Cent for Cam’ron it came down to defending the Diplomats credibility. The rapper said, “I had never spoken to 50 before in my life. That was the first time ever talking to him. The last year or two, when 50 mentions Koch Records he calls it a ‘graveyard’ or he says ‘if you go to Koch you wack’. We are the only popping artists on Koch. So on that day when he was talking about Koch, I felt if you are saying Koch is a graveyard, say ‘Koch is graveyard except for the Diplomats’, you know what I’m saying, you are leaving too much for speculation.”

Cam’ron added that following the incident when he went to visit his probation officer, he was informed by reps of the NYPD Intelligence Division that he would be watched carefully. He said, “The NYPD has a budget to watch Dipset and G-Unit for the next few months.”

As far as the recording future of the Diplomats, Cam’ron explained, “My deals are up next month. I like this part of the year, it’s over at Koch, its one more at Asylum. Juelz is at Def Jam for four more albums, so I’ll be getting money with camel face and them for a minute. Shout out to L.A. Reid, that’s the real CEO.”

The rapper added, “The Diplomats album will drop at the end of the year, that’s my last one on Koch. We will searching for a new label for The Diplomat brand with the exception of Juelz, unless we take it to Def Jam, which could be a possibility. It will make things smoother with L.A. Reid. I like Def Jam a lot, I really like do. I really like it over there, I really like Def Jam, now that the check is cut over there, they don’t BS.”

As far as Jay-Z saying that he’s the best selling artist on Roc-A-Fella Records, Cam’ron said, “And another thing, Jay-Z is not the biggest selling artist on Roc-A-Fella. Kanye (West) is the number one selling artist on Roc-A-Fella. He sold 800,000 on the first week and dropped 80%. I heard him on a freestyle saying he sold 700,000 in one week; it’s a brick if you drop 80%. Kanye sells more records than you and he supports all the feminists, no disrespect to him, but he’s the Number One artist on Roc-A-Fella.”

Cam’ron also introduced his new single, “Child Of The Ghetto,” while taking a shot at Nas. He said, “The song is like before Nas was wack. It’s like ‘Represent,’ you know before he got coochie whipped and all that. Why would you have a jump-off baby mother and then go to another celebrity who looks like she could be jumping off with whoever. I would keep my wifeys on the low after that. People wouldn’t know who my wifey is after my baby moms wrote books and all that.”

Cam’ron added, “No disrespect to him, I’m really past the Nas thing. Congratulations to whatever he is doing but I like Illmatic and all that. I don’t like the tuxedo and pianos that I seen in his new video. He got old school ruffle jackets on with a vest and a piano. Go to Queensbridge if you wanna shoot your video, why are using a green screen? Why you got a green screen of Queensbridge? Go the middle of the projects and shoot a video.”

The Los Angeles Police Department would like to talk to Sean “Diddy” Combs about an incident which took place at an Oscar party last Sunday night (February 26th). reports that Combs allegedly punched real estate agent Gerard Rechnitzer in the jaw after flirting with his soon-to-be wife.

Authorities would like to get Combs’ side of the story. On Tuesday (February 27th), the LAPD contacted Rechnitzer and five other witnesses.

Diddy’s publicist had no comment about the issue.

Rapper 50 Cent has always provided for his son but he and his son’s mother, Shaniqua Tompkins, never had a formal agreement. New York’s Daily News reports that the rapper has gotten tired of Tompkins’ increasing demands and filed a motion in New York Family Court to create a formal agreement.

A friend of the rapper told the paper, “It was just getting so out of hand. It was driven by greed….50 has always provided for his kid. His son’s mother is now making unreasonable demands, which seem to have no limits.”

50 Cent and Tompkins lived together until five years ago but since then the rapper purchased her a home in an upscale community in Long Island so that their son, Marquise, could be in a good school district.

A friend of the rapper added, “He’s paying a lot of child support. He takes (Marquise) on vacations. He just took him to L.A., where they saw Eminem together. He met Justin Timberlake and Timbaland in Miami. He took him to the NBA All-Star Game in Vegas. He sees his son very frequently. When he’s on the road, he brings him out.”

Tompkins has retained Raoul Lionel Felder, who told the paper, “Ms. Tompkins is going to get more than fifty cents, I can tell you that.”

50 Cent’s spokesperson, Cindi Berger, said, “Curtis puts his son’s needs first. His son is well loved and taken care of. Anything else is a private family and legal matter.”

VJ and radio personality Big Tigger has been selected to be the national spokesperson for Courvoisier. reports that Tigger will appear in the “Welcome to the House of Courvoisier” print advertising campaign, which includes posters and point-of sale merchandising that deals with any Courvoisier product. It symbolizes incomparable quality, a luxurious lifestyle and privileged access to which my fans and Courvoisier consumers aspire. Courvoisier spokesperson Allen Spence added, “We are delighted to bring Big Tigger on board to represent the brand. He will bring an unprecedented level of access to our core consumer, as we continue to offer our consumers a luxury experience along with access to influential movers and shakers, an the hottest entertainers and the finest blend of Cognac that dates back to Napoleon Imperial Court.”

Beyonce is planning to re-release her smash sophomore solo album B’Day on April 3rd, featuring five new songs, and six tunes in Spanish. The lead single, “Beautiful Liar” with Colombian star Shakira, was released this week in four versions — album version, all-Spanish version, Spanglish version and a radio edit. The video also went to TV outlets this week.

Beyonce is currently being heard on Spanish radio with her Spanish version of the hit “Irreplaceable.” Titled “Irreemprazable,” the tune benefits from the assistance of Latin producer Rudy Perez, who helped Beyonce learn the lyrics phonetically.

Entertainment Weekly gives Beyonce high marks for her pronunciation en espanol, saying that being born in “Hispanic-heavy Houston” gave her a boost. The story adds, “Beyonce nails the pronunciation on her crossover hit — more lilting and vulnerable than past singles — and little of the original’s power is lost in translation.”

Beyonce also performs the Spanish-language tune “Amor Gitano” — or “Gypsy Love”– a flamenco- pop duet with Alejandro Fernandez, which can be heard as the theme music for Zorro: La Espada y La Rosa (The Sword and the Rose), a telenovela on Telemundo. She also performs Spanish versions of “Listen (Oye)” and three new mixes of “Beautiful Liar.”

Global pop star Seal could not convince a British court to overturn a ruling ordering him to pay his ex-manager commissions on earnings from his first two albums. On Wednesday (February 28th), Court of Appeal Judge Roger Toulson dismissed Seal’s challenge to a High Court ruling handed down in June, which decreed that former manager John Wadlow was entitled to unpaid commissions under a 1995 agreement. Seal was ordered to make an interim payment of $922,000 at that time.

Both of the albums in question — each titled Seal and released in 1991 and 1994, respectively — were recorded before that date. Both reached Number One on the British charts.

The appeals court pointed to an earlier management agreement as well as the1995 settlement signed by the 44-year-old Seal, whose real name is Sealhenry Olusegun Adeola Samuel, when he fired Wadlow. The artist had argued that neither of those agreements were valid because Wadlow had used “undue influence” to get him to sign.

But Judge Toulson ruled that the terms in the settlement were “not unreasonable or oppressive.”

Seal is married to German-born supermodel and TV personality Heidi Klum, and they are raising three children together.

Rapper and sometime actress Lil’ Kim is among the judges on the CW’s newest and longest- titled reality series, Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search For The Next Doll. The show begins Tuesday (March 4th), and just like the title says, it’s about finding a new member for the group that famously asked, “Don’tcha wish your girlfriend was hot like me?”

Lil’ Kim feels especially suited for the program because she said she has a good eye for talent: “With the Pussycat Dolls show, one thing that I bring is my true honesty of being able to have that eye to pick that person who has that star quality. We call it that ‘thing.’ That’s kind of what I bring to the show, is being able to pick that person who has that thing.”

Pussycat Dolls creator Robin Antin, and record executive Ron Fair weigh in on contestants as well as judges. Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search For The Next Doll premieres Tuesday (March 6th) at 9 on the CW.

In Justin Timberlake’s newest video “Give It To Me,” the singer takes a verbal swipe at one of his own musical influences, Prince.

Joining Timberlake on the track are Nelly Furtado and Timbaland, each of whom do a verse that takes a shot at someone. Although Furtado’s target is unclear, Timbaland is rumored to be aiming at fellow producer Scott Storch.

When Justin sings, “Now if sexy never left, then why is everybody on my s**t?,” it is likely a reference to the Purple One’s post-Emmy party joke, “For whoever is claiming that they are bringing sexy back, sexy never left!”

This isn’t the first time Justin has poked fun at Prince. At this year’s Golden Globes, he bent down in front of the microphone in an imitation of Prince’s small stature when accepting an award on his behalf.

Singer, rapper and actress Queen Latifah will appear on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno tonight (March 2nd). The Grammy-winning artist will be promoting her new telefilm, Life Support, which premieres March 10th at 7 p.m. on HBO.

Latifah plays an HIV-positive peer counselor at an AIDS facility in Brooklyn, who is also trying to heal the wounds of her drug past by mending fences with her teenaged daughter.

“I really felt like I really could relate to the characters, to the situations, a family disrupted by drug addiction. I could relate to that just in my own family,” Latifah told a TV writers press conference in Pasadena, California. “So I could relate to Ana’s sense of wanting to get out there and see what life had to offer, although we took dramatically different turns. And redemption as well, having the second chance of really trying to repair those relationships after you feel like, OK, I messed up, but I’m back on track and I really want to get things back to where they were.”

Latifah co-produced Life Support with Oscar winner Jamie Foxx.

After a long period of globe-trotting, Michael Jackson is currently living in Las Vegas, where he has received several offers to perform. His spokeswoman, Raymone K. Bain, said Tuesday (February 27th) that while he mulls the various proposals, he isn’t feeling pressured to make a quick decision.

“Mr. Jackson has been presented numerous proposals — proposals which he has not solicited, but were presented to him, several of which include performing in Las Vegas,” Bain said in a press release. The release was issued in response to false rumors, she said, including one that Jackson has failed to find a Las Vegas casino for a show, and another that he would be appearing on American Idol.

Jackson moved to the Middle Eastern kingdom of Bahrain and then Ireland over the past few years, after being acquitted of child molestation charges in California in 2005.

Grey’s Anatomy star Isaiah Washington has hired well known public relations expert Howard Bragman to help restore his tarnished image.

Bragman is openly gay and ran one of Hollywood’s biggest PR firms for decades before starting his Fifteen Minutes PR agency in 2005. He’s known about town as a straight shooter and worked with former NBA player John Amaechi on his “coming out” book, Man In The Middle.

The company said in a statement to TMZ, “Our work with Isaiah is about his future — not the past. There is an important dialogue in our society about diversity that needs to happen, and Isaiah is uniquely positioned to be the catalyst for this.”

Washington has been in hot water ever since calling co-star T.R. Knight a derogatory term for gay men last year and bringing up the slur again at the Golden Globe awards in January.

Washington’s double faux-pas landed him in counseling designed to transform his “negative actions into positive results, personally and professionally.”

Vanessa L. Williams says she really enjoys playing evil editrix Wilhelmina Slater on the ABC hit Ugly Betty. Usually cast as sympathetic characters, Williams says that the role of the conniving Mode Magazine editor who thwarts America Ferrera’s lead character of Betty, allows her to call on her Broadway training.

Williams said: “When you play someone that’s that broad you don’t have to be likeable, you don’t have to be nice, you don’t have to be safe, you don’t have to keep it contained. You can be broad and you can be free. And it’s a lot like doing theater, And that’s why a lot of us here with theater background love to play in Ugly Betty because it feels like you’re on a stage and you’re about to do theater.”

Ugly Betty airs on ABC tonight (Thursday) at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Williams will also be seen in a new movie, titled My Brother, co-starring Nashawn Kearse of Desperate Housewives, Oscar winner Tatum O’Neal, and former rapper Fredro Starr. The story centers on the lives of two brothers, one developmentally challenged, who struggle to stay together after their mother is gone. The film opens March 16th in theaters.

The new Christina Ricci movie Black Snake Moan is about a nymphomaniac who is physically and spiritually saved by a blues singer. Sounds deep, right? Well those moral and possibly misogynistic issues will probably be forgotten once the movie’s real attraction kicks in — Ricci in skimpy underwear and a torn crop top. That’s all the 27-year- old actress wears when she’s not showing her private parts or being gang-raped or throwing herself at any man crossing her path in the film.

While some may be transfixed by the sight of the former Addams Family and Sleepy Hollow star in next to nothing, the same can’t be said for co-star Samuel L. Jackson. Jackson said he got over Ricci’s barely-there wardrobe quickly: “After about an hour of looking at Christina in those little panties and that shirt, you kind of get over it.”

The Black Snake Moan crew had a bit more difficulty keeping their eyes off Ricci than Jackson did, so she walked around the set in the outfit even when she wasn’t filming. Ricci said that helped everyone’s comfort level: “I stayed the way I would before the scene all the time in order to get the crew used to seeing me that way so that I was comfortable, not only was I comfortable, but I would look at anybody’s face and not see them uncomfortable.”

Black Snake Moan was written and directed by Craig Brewster, the man behind Hustle & Flow. Black Snake Moan opens today.

Foxy Brown pleaded guilty to a probation violation today (Mar. 1) for leaving New York without permission from her probation officer. Brown, born Inga Marchand was arrested in Pembroke Pines, FL on Feb. 15, after becoming embroiled in a dispute with a beauty store owner. In October 2006, Brown was sentenced to anger management classes and three years probation, for assaulting two Manhattan

More rumors are flying about some woman claiming to be Jay Z’s baby mama. Take this article with a grain of salt.

If you’ve heard about “official Justin Timberlake after parties” or events attached to his Futuresex/loveshow tour, don’t buy into it. A post at says there are no such official events.

By popular demand – enjoy this video of Shakira and Beyonce writhing around in the video for their new duet, “Beautiful Liar”.

Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson will never do a nude scene. According to the “National Enquirer”, she’s so against nudity she won’t even appear in a movie where SOMEBODY ELSE gets naked. Supposedly, she turned down $3 million for a role in a movie where another actress had a nude scene because she didn’t want to condone nudity by being in it.
White record producer Scott Storch who is known for working with various black artists such as 50 cent, Beyonce, Kelis, Lil Kim and Diddy just to name a few, has taken his feud with Timbaland to another level when he put out a mixtape using the N-word. Near the end of this particular track Storch says, “Don’t apologize [Nigga], you can’t even get your label to work right.” You be the judge.

Bobby Brown, The king of R&B, was in a Boston club the night before he was arrested for child support and witnesses say after the DJ put on one of his records he jumped up on stage and tried to sing, but was sweating so tough and breathing so hard, he got off the stage in mid song and almost passed out.

Word on the street is that Justin Timberlake’s ex has moved on with singer Tyrese. Yes, the same Tyrese who has a pregnant girlfriend that he keeps hidden. Sources say Cameron Diaz was hurt by her breakup with Timberlake, but sources say Diaz is hanging out with black guys to get back at Timberlake, who wants to be a black guy.

Actor Boris Kodjoe has a message for his fans: everything is fine between him and his wife Nicole Ari Parker. They are the parents of two toddlers. During the NBA All-Star festivities, Kodjoe raised eyebrows when he was spotted spending a lot of time with actress Gabrielle Union. Kodjoe states he and Union are just good friends and were just hanging out. Kodjoe says he and his wife are happier than ever.

Congratulations to singer Toni Braxton. Braxton recently got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Gerald Levert’s final CD, In My Songs, has turned out to be the best selling album of his career.

Tomi Rae Hynie is coming out with an album of songs. Hynie was the final companion of James Brown. She says her tribute album will feature songs that she and Brown wrote together.

NEWS YOU CAN USE: NYC passes resolution urging people not to use the N-word

The New York City Council unanimously passed a resolution Wednesday (February 28th) urging city residents not to use the “n-word” racial slur. The nonbinding, purely symbolic measure follows similar action by other cities, and is aimed largely at young African-Americans who say their use of the word is empowering and reclaims it from the way it was used in the past to denigrate black people. But African- American Councilman Leroy Comrie, who sponsored the measure, isn’t buying it, saying, “People are … denigrating themselves by using the word, and disrespecting their history.” And Councilman Albert Vann said, “I forgive those young people who do not know their history, and I blame myself and my generation for not preparing you. But today we are going to know our history. We are not going to refer to ourselves … the way the slave master referred to black people…”
