Jay-Z has been tapped to be a presenter at this year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The rapper will be on hand to induct hip hop legends Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, who are being honored for their pioneering work. On his website, Flash said, “This is bigger than me. This induction is total acceptance from one of the most prestigious music associations in the world. This induction says that for the decades of work that was put in which later co-created an entire culture, they honor us. It’s a wonderful feeling to be remembered as one of the architects that pioneered an idea that the whole world fell madly in love with. It is called Hip Hop.”

Also being honored this year are the vocal group the Ronettes and the rock acts Patti Smith, R.E.M., and Van Halen.

In addition, there will be a surprise performance to honor the late Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun, who died in December at age 83.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony takes place March 12th at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. It will air live on VH1 Classic beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET.

Rapper Foxy Brown was given a second chance by Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Melissa Jackson on Thursday, March 1st, after pleading guilty to leaving New York without notifying her probation officer. reports that probation officials wanted the judge to violate Brown’s probation and send her to jail for a year, but Jackson gave the rapper a second chance and allowed the terms of her probation to stay intact.

Earlier this week, the rapper’s lawyer John Sampson explained what went wrong. He said: “My client, Ms. Marchand, notified her probation officer that she was leaving to perform as we did on other occasions. Subsequently her business manager is suppose to follow-up with a letter. Unfortunately it wasn’t done at that point in time.”

Sampson added: “But my client did notify her probation officer that she was leaving town to engage in performances in Florida.”

The latest courtroom drama stems from the fact that Brown was arrested in Pembroke Pines, Florida last month and charged with battery and resisting arrest with violence after she got into an altercation with a beauty supply store owner. Brown, who is currently serving three years probation for assaulting two manicurists, never got her probation officer’s permission to leave New York and to travel to Florida. Judge Jackson told Brown that if they’re any more slip ups she will be found in violation and sent to jail for a year.

Brown maintains her innocence in the Florida case. She says the beauty supply store owner was overzealous and just looking for a big payday. She denies throwing hair glue on him and maintains that he barged in on her in the bathroom while she was half dressed. She is also accusing the Pembroke Pines police department of police brutality in relation to the February 15th incident because the arresting officer used a takedown technique on her. She’s currently free on $1,500 bail in that case.

Rapper Snoop Dogg will be making a guest appearance on an upcoming episode of The Apprentice: Los Angeles. reports that on the episode, which airs on Sunday, March 4th at 10 p.m. on NBC, the show’s contestants are asked to create a special VIP experience for preferred Lexus guests to introduce the company’s new sedan. The winning team will get a chance to record a song with Snoop Dogg, while the losing team will be blindsided from a double firing by Donald Trump.

In related news, Snoop Dogg and Sean “Diddy” Combs will launch their European tour in Oslo, Norway, on March 12th. The tour will wrap on April 2nd in the United Kingdom at the Nottingham Arena.

Rapper and Entourage cast member Saigon entered a plea of not guilty to misdemeanor charges of second degree harassment and disorderly conduct on Wednesday, February 28th. reports that the charges stem from a December 2006 incident where Saigon allegedly poured a beer over the head and face of his ex-girlfriend, grabbed and pulled her, and used a car door to hit the woman’s left leg.

The incident took place in Clarkstown, New York and the rapper was hit with the disorderly conduct charge after he refused to be quiet in the parking lot of his building.

Saigon, whose real name is Brian Carenard, was ordered to stay away from the woman per an order of protection. This isn’t the 26 year-old rapper’s first brush with the law. He spent eight years behind bars for an aggravated assault conviction.

Saigon is scheduled to release his debut album, Greatest Story Never Told, this spring.

Rapper Young City, formerly of Bad Boy’s Da Band (Chopper), has found himself in some serious trouble with the law. The rapper missed a court date in Baltimore County on Wednesday, February 28th, because he was incarcerated in Georgia on domestic violence charges. The Baltimore Examiner reports that a bench warrant was issued for the 22-year-old rapper by a Baltimore county judge and bail was set at $50,000.

The charges in Baltimore stem from an incident on September 29th, 2001, when the rapper allegedly approached a couple near the Eastpoint Mall in Baltimore while riding his mountain bike. According to court records, Chopper flashed a BB gun and took $90 in cash from the man’s pocket. He was arrested at the scene.

Young City was arrested last summer in Atlanta after a traffic stop revealed an outstanding warrant for the Baltimore case. The rapper’s lawyer, Paul Gardner, insist that Judge Patrick Stringer went a little overboard by issuing a bench warrant. He said, “I’m astounded by the judge’s decision. This judge is putting in danger a million-dollar deal over a BB gun when he was 16. If he’s in jail, he can’t record. Then there’s no record deal.”

Young City, whose real name is Kevin Barnes, is currently being held at the Gwinnet County Detention Center in Georgia. He was arrested last week and charged with aggravated assault, simple battery and obstructing a law enforcement officer after a domestic violence dispute with his girlfriend.

Rich Boy will release his debut solo album, Product of the Hustle, on March 13th, and the rapper is happy that he will have a chance to promote the new album as the opening act of the Street Dreams tour. The tour’s line-up also includes Young Jeezy, Jim Jones, Lil Wayne, Baby, and Fat Joe.

Rich Boy told, “It was a situation that I had to take. I’m excited for the chance to further my career and to be able to touch a larger amount of people than I would be by going on the road by myself. It’s probably the best situation for me to be in. We’re gonna be doing arenas, and I’m excited. I just wanna go hard and show the people I’m something that’s worth going to buy. It’s a great look. It just puts me on a higher pedestal.”

The rapper recently released the new single, “Boy Looka Here.” The album features collaborations with Snoop Dogg, Akon, Gangsta Boo, 8Ball, Lil’ Jon, Mannie Fresh, Kanye West, and Timbaland.

The Street Dreams Tour kicks off Saturday, March 3rd, in Charlotte, NC, and wraps on April 29th in Los Angeles.

Singer Bobby Brown was released after three nights in the Norfolk County jail in Dedham, Massachusetts after paying the $19,150 the R&B singer owed in late child-support payments and court fees. But the cash was provided by Washington, D.C. radio station WIHT “Hot 99.5” FM, which in return is requiring that Brown serve as a station employee for a week.

Morning show host Kane told AP that he made the offer to bail Brown out of jail after several on-air discussions and two days of negotiation with Brown’s attorney, Phaedra Parks. The “Every Little Step” singer is expected to be on the air at Hot 99.5’s The Kane Show for a week, beginning today. He will also make promotional appearances for the station.

“This has become a very controversial subject — D.C. is abuzz,” noted Kane in a station announcement about Brown’s upcoming hosting stint. “Bobby deserves a clean state and he has agreed to be a positive role model for the Washington D.C. community and we look forward to welcoming him to the staff at Hot 99.5.”

Kane told AP he expects to have an “open and candid conversation” with Brown about his past mistakes.

Brown was released at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday from the Norfolk County jail, where he had been held since his arrest while watching his daughter’s cheerleading competition at a local high school.

Parks, attorney for Brown, told AP earlier this week that the star — currently going through a divorce from Grammy winner Whitney Houston — was having trouble making his child support payments. “Although this agreement was put in place when he was Bobby Brown the star, this agreement is being enforced when he is not always able to find work. He hasn’t made an album in quite some years,” Parks explained.

Barbadian singer Rihanna says she has learned a lot by working with songwriter and producer Ne-Yo on her third album. “He is such a genius,” Rihanna told about working with her “Unfaithful” producer. “I’ve never had vocal training, so when I’m in the studio, he’ll tell me how to breathe and stuff. And I’m like, ‘What?’ Like he’ll call out these big fancy words: ‘OK, I want you to do staccato.’ And I’m like, ‘OK, I don’t know what that is.’ ”

Rihanna spent the week of the Grammy Awards last month working on brand-new songs with Ne- Yo for the follow-up to A Girl Like Me. She also plans to work with producers that include Timbaland,Will.I.Am, Polow Da Don, and Andre 3000, and songwriters Stargate, Evan & Carl, and Sean Garrett.

The singer says she plans to make her next album sound much different than previous efforts. “You feel different every album, and (at) this stage I feel like I want to do a lot of up tempo (songs),” she explains. “I want to keep people dancing but still be soulful at the same time.”

Rihanna says she is also taking acting classes in Los Angeles.

Atlanta-based singer and songwriter Bobby Valentino is excited about the forthcoming release of his sophomore album, titled Special Occasion. Known for tunes with romantic themes, such as his smash hit “Slow Down,” Valentino says there were a couple of reasons he gave the album the title Special Occasion.

The set only has an interlude with that title, but Valentino added: “I named it Special Occasion because first of all this is my second album, and a lot of artists don’t get a chance to make it to their second album, also I got a chance to work with all my favorite producers on this album. That was very special to me.”

Among Valentino’s favorite producers is chart-topping beat maker Timbaland, who contributed two tracks to the new set, including the first single, “Anonymous.”

Toni Braxton recently settled her lawsuit with former manager Barry Hankerson by agreeing to return the cash advance she received for a new album and by severing ties with his label, Blackground Records. Braxton had accused Hankerson of double-dealing by interfering with her relationship with Arista in order to maneuver her onto his own label imprint. On Tuesday (February 27th), Hankerson spoke out to dispute Braxton’s version of the dispute. A veteran Chicago music executive who previously handled the careers of R. Kelly, Timbaland, and his niece, the late Aaliyah, Hankerson says his business dealings with Braxton were soured in part by her attempts to throw work to her husband, former Mint Condition keyboardist Keri Lewis.

In an exclusive interview with, Hankerson says that he negotiated Braxton’s $23 million dollar advance from Arista after her devastating 1998 bankruptcy, and helped bail her out of debt. He adds that he admired her for officially declaring bankruptcy: “She had no choice, she did what she had to do and I admired her for that. I admired her strength to go through that, ’cause it must’ve been tough … And she was very upset with Arista obviously, because a check could’ve straightened out everything.”

Braxton married Lewis in 2001, and her efforts to include Lewis as a songwriter and producer on her projects proved problematic, as the production on 2000’s Libra and 2004’s The Heat proved.

“I think she blamed me because there was really no one else to blame,” says Hankerson. ” Toni had made a decision in her life to include her husband in the production of her music. And if you read the back of her latest album, he was very involved. He was … involved in the three prior albums until the Libra album that she did with us. Keri is a nice guy; a very nice guy; but not a record guy.”

Hankerson says that he and the record label rejected several versions of Braxton’s next album featuring Lewis’ tunes. They then tried to agree on an executive producer they could all work with, and Braxton agreed and asked for her recording advance. But then she changed her mind, says Hankerson.

“That’s when we got into all of the arguments and all the lawyers came in and I got fed up and sent her the release and said, ‘Give me back my money and go on your merry way and do whatever you got to do with another label,’ and that’s what I did,” he states. “Two days later she sued me; and I didn’t get that. I didn’t understand why; I released you so you can move on.”

Singer Sammy Strain, the third member of veteran soul group The O’Jays, has filed a lawsuit against his fellow group members and their label, charging that he is owed some $15 million in back royalties. Strain says that he never received any royalties from his 16 years with the group, when the O’Jays recorded hits such as “Used to Be My Girl” and “Forever Mine.”

“My client has been stabbed in the back for the love of money,” lawyer Charles A. Whittier told AP, invoking the title of another O’Jays hit “The Love of Money.”

The lawsuit, filed last week in federal court in Philadelphia, alleges that O’Jays founders Eddie Levert and Walter Williams conspired to deny Strain his share of the royalties. The singer also names producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff and their world-famous label, Philadelphia International Records, as defendants. Eddie Levert is the father of the late Gerald Levert, who died last November at age 40.

Strain left the group Little Anthony & the Imperials in 1976 to join the O’Jays after original member William Powell was diagnosed with cancer and later died.

Reports that Chris Rock’s marriage was “on the rocks” forced the actor-comedian to issue a public denial yesterday (March 1st). Rock usually makes it a point not to comment on gossip but he said he couldn’t stand by and have his marriage bashed any longer. Rock told People, “We find it necessary to express on record how unfortunate it is that…tabloid outlets have chosen to print untrue rumors and lies about our family and marriage. We remain, as always, very happy and committed to our marriage and the beautiful family that we have built.”

Rock and his wife Malaak have been married since 1996 and have two daughters. News of their supposed problems first appeared in November when TMZ reported that Rock had filed for divorce. The rumor mill started up again this past week with stories claiming that the Rock’s upcoming movie, I Think I Love My Wife, was based in part on his own marital woes. Rock’s character has an affair with an old friend in the comedy.

Playing devil’s advocate: Sources say things are NOT cool and Chris is only pretending they are while he’s hyping his new movie which is ironically titled I Think I Love My Wife.

Even MORE ironically the latest cause of friction in the Rock household could be actress Kerry Washington (who also just broke up with her boyfriend). She’s in the movie with Rock playing a woman who tempts his married character and she’s already gone out of her way to say that Chris Rock had nothing to do with the breakup.

Supposedly, the producers have asked Chris to pretend he’s happily married until I Think I Love My Wife hits theaters on March 16th.

Here are two links to video footage of Chris Rock when he was in WGCI’s studios. Link 1 is about the movie and Link 2 specifically addresses the rumors.

Anna Nicole Smith is being buried in a dress that was custom-made for the occasion. Her dolled-up body left the Florida medical examiner’s office — where it’s been for the past three weeks — early fFriday and was flown to the Bahamas, and taken to the Mount Horeb Baptist Church in Nassau for a memorial service.

A smaller family service took place after that at the dead model’s gravesite, where she was buried alongside her son Daniel. Smith’s companion Howard K. Stern, ex-boyfriend Larry Birkhead, and Smith’s estranged mother Virgie Arthur put their differences aside to and attended the services, which were closed to the public.

Blood Diamond star Djimon Hounsou may not have won an Oscar this past weekend but he’s doing pretty well in the romance department. The newest Calvin Klein underwear model was cozying up with Baby Phat exec Kimora Lee Simmons at a private party celebrating Forest Whitaker on Tuesday (February 27th). Spies said the two were necking at the bar.

Kimora Lee and husband Russell Simmons broke up around this time last year. The pair have two daughters, Ming Lee, 7, and Aoki Lee, 4. The girls have modeled in their mother’s print ad campaigns and in fashion shows.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z are still together, despite numerous claims that they’d called it quits. Jay didn’t attend last weeks Oscar awards with B, who performed at the festivities starting the rumor mill about a possible break-up. A friend of the couple told the New York Daily News, “They were at a basketball game together [Tuesday] night.” Jay is also featured in B’s video for “Upgrade U,” which she previewed a few days ago on MTV’s TRL.

Destiny’s Child had another reunion — albeit short-lived — when Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams (and Beyonce’s sister Solange) filmed cameos in the video for Beyonce’s “Get Me Bodied.” B tells MTV UK, “It was exciting because we learned choreography. It was like old times. I’m so serious when I’m working, and they were with me and we laughed and we’re so goofy.” The 10-time Grammy-winner says a bona fide reunion isn’t out of the question, but it won’t be anytime soon, as the girls are all too busy.

Jay-Z, Rhianna and Ne-Yo are among the nominees for the MTV Australia Video Music Awards. They’re up for Best Male Artist Video for “Show Me What You Got,” Best Download of the Year for “SOS” and Best New Artist for “So Sick,” respectively.

A new single from Kelly Rowland’s sophomore disc, “Like This” featuring Eve, is making the Internet rounds.

It looks like ultimately talented song writer, Ne- Yo, and the extremely successful Teen Idol, Chris Brown have more then a hit movie in common. If you haven’t heard, Chris Brown’s Sidekick has reportedly been hacked and the results are some very revealing images of him.

Robin Givens has a new man, and he loves to dance for her. Givens was spotted last Thursday night at Stereo with rapper Ginuwine and pals including Kanye West and Jermaine Dupri. Clubgoers got a show when, according to witnesses, Ginuwine “got up on Jermaine’s table in the VIP section and started doing a sexy, slow dance for Robin, followed by a lap dance.”

Ne-Yo has picked a title for his second album, which is set to drop on April 24th. He’s going to call it Know Me because, quote, “I feel that people dug the first album, but nobody really knew who I was. “I want people to really get to know who I am with the second album.” While he finishes up the album, he’s also writing tracks for Britney Spears, Whitney Houston, Usher, Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Rihanna, Chris Brown and Will.I.Am.

Ludacris has signed on to make another appearance on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He appeared on the show last March, playing Ice-T’s nephew he’ll be playing the same role this time around. The episode with Luda is set to air on May 22nd at 10:00 P.M.

In recent months, ABC News-Washington Post polls showed Sen. Hillary Clinton running 40 points higher than Sen. Barack Obama among blacks voters asked to name their preference in the Democratic primary. But in Wednesday editions, the Washington Post reported a poll that has Obama leading Clinton by 11 points among black voters — 44 percent to 33 percent. Obama is the Senate’s only black member and has been campaigning across the country for the last couple of months. Clinton is his chief rival for the 2008 presidential nomination. Among blacks, Obama’s favorables are high (70 percent), but Clinton’s are higher (85 percent). Plus, Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, have deep roots in the black community. Blacks, in part, may be slow to warm to the candidacy of Obama because, a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll suggests, they are less likely than whites to believe that America is ready for a black president.
