OLD BECOMES THE NEW WITH SOLID GOLD SOUL

Solid Gold Soul is returning to the Twin Cities airwaves. Leading that return is veteran broadcaster Freddie Bell who will again treat morning listeners to the Motown sound and more. Normally broadcast news of this magnitude is not released until the station gets on the air. Solid Gold Soul is taking a different stance because of it desire to be inclusive.

Solid Gold Soul is giving our fans, individuals, the Twin Cities business’ community and national advertisers an opportunity to have an active role in this comeback.

The plan is multifaceted. Solid Gold Soul, LLC is offering individuals a chance to have buy-in with the new the station by offering ownership investment positions in the new, old-school-music radio station.

The plan gives listeners a chance to invest in the radio station thus making Solid Gold Soul truly focused on the audience it intends to super-serve and support. Moreover, the investment options are broad enough to provide anyone a chance to own something of increasing value.

Solid Gold Soul is also offering charter-advertising opportunities to the business community and national advertisers. Getting involved with ad buying now makes sense because the rates are advantaged and adds value to the advertising dollar over an extended period of time. Industry experts say the opportunities for investment ownership and charter advertising in a radio enterprise like Solid Gold Soul is unique and a smart move because it helps ensure the long-time viability of the Solid Gold Soul.

EVE ARRESTED FOR DRUNK DRIVING

The accident took place around 2:45 a.m. yesterday when she hit the center divider and totaled the front of her car. She had two passengers in the car with her, and was “visibly upset” as police handcuffed her and placed her in a squad car.

Police said that her blood alcohol level was double the legal limit, and she posted her $30,000 bail just several hours after being brought in.

As for Sean Penn, he was spotted leaving in a taxi close to 4:00 AM. Police sources tell TMZ, “He came to see how Eve was doing.” No word yet if Sean and Eve had been out together before her car accident.

MIKE JONES SAYS SEX TAPE ISN’T HIM

Mike Jones says he isn’t the man featured on a recent sex tape that was leaked to the internet. The rapper told SOHH.com, “It’s unfortunate that people use the internet to spread untrue rumors that are harmful to people on a personal and professional level. At no time in my life has a sex tape been made on me. And if you look closely you will see that that man is not me. Where are the tattoos? I have them all over my arms, hands, neck, everywhere.”

Jones added, “My mission is about uplifting people especially kids, The American Dream. I wouldn’t be surprised if more lies and scandal came out because my album is about to be released. I normally wouldn’t have given this type of thing any time of day but with the internet things get blown out of proportion and I have to address it. A note to my fans: don’t believe everything you see or hear on the internet.”

Jones will release his new album, The American Dream, in June. The album features guest appearances by Trey Songz, T.I., Bobby Brown, Pimp C, Latoya Luckett, Snoop Dogg and Lil’ Mo.

KANYE WEST ADDED TO PRINCESS DI TRIBUTE CONCERT

Grammy Award winner Kanye West, Rod Stewart, and Lily Allen have been added to the lineup of the July 1st concert at Wembley Stadium in honor of the late Princess Diana. The show’s lineup already includes Duran Duran, Elton John, Joss Stone and Pharrell Williams.

The Associated Press reports that the concert was planned by Prince William and Prince Harry to celebrate what would have been their mother’s 46th birthday on July 1st. The event also marks the tenth anniversary of her death in Paris in August of 1997. The concert will also feature a performance by the English National Ballet and songs by Andrew Lloyd Webber in honor of Diana’s love of dancing and theater. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the charities that Diana supported while she was alive.

In related news, an inquest will begin in October to finally investigate the infamous crash that took the life of Princess Diana, her friend Dodi Fayed and their bodyguard. The trio were killed when their Mercedes crashed inside the Pont d’Alma tunnel in Paris while being chased by paparazzi.

YOUNG JEEZY EXPLAINS THE FORMATION OF USDA

Young Jeezy is gearing up for the release of the debut album, Cold Summer, from his group, USDA, which consist of the rapper, Slick Pulla and Blood Raw. Jeezy explains how the trio got their name. He said: “It was our clique. You know everybody was doing what they was doing but we was getting money so in my mind you know I just felt like we was United Streets Of D-Boys of America. It’s just like that’s what we was doing. Mentally, yo, we was always on the grind. That’s what we does. We always out there making stuff happen you know either way, you know what I mean? So the end result, that’s what you got. We ain’t want to be called nothing we wasn’t.”.)

The rapper explained that the group’s music is street music. He said: “USDA is pretty much what I was screaming from the beginning. And you know USDA was always me and Slick and Raw. I just want to do…They very well make good music, just you know real music. But I wanted to do something, you know what I mean, cause that’s where we came from the whole mixtape movement, the whole mixtape era. It’s like you know sometimes when you talk with the labels you know it’s about numbers and not just having music, you know what I mean, like street music.”

Cold Summer is scheduled to hit stores on May 22nd.

BEASTIE BOYS ALBUM DUE OUT IN JUNE

The Beastie Boys have set The Mix Up as the title of their new album, according to NME.com. The trio’s seventh studio effort is due out in June and member Mike Diamond said that the disc will be “radically different” from the previous Beasties record, 2004’s To The 5 Boroughs. Diamond explained, “We play instruments on the whole album, as opposed to sampling. There’s more rock on there. If you know us you can trace the influences and they’re not completely surprising. Someone who listens to us casually might think ‘What the hell are these guys doing?'”

The Beastie Boys will perform at the London edition of July 7th’s worldwide Live Earth concerts, joining the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snow Patrol and others to promote awareness of climate change. Diamond said, “It’s come to the point where drastic measures have to be taken now these huge concerts around the globe are probably one of the best means of doing so.”

The Beastie Boys recently announced that they’ll also play several exclusive instrumental shows this summer as part of the band’s European tour.

The Beasties’ only announced U.S. appearances so far are May 26th and 27th at the Sasquatch Festival in George, Washington and an early August performance at the Virgin Festival in Baltimore.

PRINCE PUTS HILTON ON BLAST

Prince publicly embarrassed Paris Hilton at his Las Vegas show last Friday (April 20th), by asking her to sing onstage. According to Us Weekly, Hilton was taking in Prince’s performance at the Rio Hotel and Casino, when he invited her to join him onstage. Her obvious delight faded fast when he handed her the microphone and told the audience they were going to judge if the “Stars are Blind” singer could indeed sing. Humiliated, she exited the stage, and left the club two songs later. Hilton’s rep denied the incident, and Prince’s spokesman had no comment.

WHITNEY HOUSTON AND BOBBY BROWN OFFICIALLY DIVORCED

Whitney Houston’s divorce from Bobby Brown became official on Tuesday (April 24th). The date was set at a hearing three weeks ago in an Orange County, California court, which Brown did not attend.

Houston now has custody of their 14-year-old daughter Bobbi Christina. And according to papers filed by Houston, she and Brown had a prenuptial agreement preventing them from amassing community property and paying spousal support. She is reportedly in the studio recording a comeback project, with music industry legend Clive Davis, who is credited with making her a star in the 1980s.

‘SCARY SPICE’ MELANIE B. RE-NAMES BABY DAUGHTER AFTER MURPHY

Melanie “Scary Spice” Brown gave birth to Angel Iris Murphy Brown on April 3rd in Santa Monica, California and has listed her ex-boyfriend Eddie Murphy as the child’s father. Explaining the baby’s name in a statement, the 31-year-old singer said, “Angel, as she was my little angel through my pregnancy; Iris, as it’s my grandma’s name; Murphy because he’s the dad; and Brown, because I’m the Mum!”

Eddie Murphy has claimed, “I don’t know whose child that is until it comes out and has a blood test,” and has insisted on a paternity test. Since leaving Brown, he has been dating film producer Tracey Edmonds, who said on a Chicago’s radio station, “There’ll be a paternity test and if it’s his, then he’ll be responsible.”

Brown has said that she’s baffled by rumors that the child’s father would be someone other than Murphy. She has an eight-year-old daughter, Phoenix Chi, with her ex-husband, dancer Jimmy Gulzar.

BEYONCE REACTS TO LAWSUIT BY PULLING DELUXE EDITIONS OF ‘B’DAY’

Beyonce is pulling the Deluxe Edition CD and DVD her new album, B’Day, from stores, in reaction to the copyright infringement lawsuit against her for the use of singer Des’ree’s “I’m Kissing You.”

According to Billboard.com, Beyonce’s legal reps had originally sought clearance on the song on February 13th to use “interpolations” of the track, which was a hit in 1996 when it was on the soundtrack of the film Romeo + Juliet. By March 3rd, Beyonce’s legal team had a confirmation and license request ready to submit.

Two days later, they had permission by Des’ree’s publishers, the Royalty Network, provided they didn’t use the song in video form, and that they didn’t the title. However, the song wound up on the DVD, and also was renamed as “Still In Love (Kissing You)” — which negated the deal.

When the Royalty Network discovered on March 27th that Beyonce and her label were continuing in that direction, a letter was sent deeming the move “completely unacceptable” and saying that Sony must cease and desist from distributing the album. When these instructions were ignored, the Royalty Networks considered this “willful disregard,” and withdrew their permission to use the song.

The Royalty Network filed suit on April 16th, seeking $150,000 in damages and an injunction to remove the album from stores. On Friday (April 20th), they filed a new agreement with Beyonce confirming that Columbia and Sony would “engage in no further distribution” of the album or video until a preliminary injunction hearing on May 4th.

HALLE BERRY TIRED OF SUICIDE STORY

Halle Berry has had enough about her attempted suicide. The 40-year-old actress once spoke freely about the time when she contemplated ending her life ten years ago, but she doesn’t want to revisit it anymore. Unfortunately for her, the story came up again while she was promoting Perfect Stranger, and Berry said the topic became fair game all over: “Because I have a movie out, some other magazines have sensationalized some old material and its been presented as if it’s new again, and if it’s something I want to talk about, and I really don’t. But I’ve tried to look at the bright side — okay, they use old stories and they sensationalize it to sell their magazines but if by bringing it up yet again, if that can help one more person, then I guess it’s okay.”

Berry was despondent over her failed marriage to baseball player David Justice when she thought about offing herself. She stopped short when she considered the sacrifices her mother made to raise her and the pain a suicide would cause her. A decade later, a fulfilled Berry said she wants to leave the subject behind: “It wasn’t my wish to go into all of that again at this point in my life. I talked about it on Larry King in 2002, I was Oprah talking about it… when it was relevant, and I felt it was important to help other women and share it. But the truth is, I’m in such a great time in my life right now, it wouldn’t be my wish to really revisit that but another outlet did that so it made it seem like it was really current again and it’s just really not.”

Berry’s next picture is the widower drama Things We Lost In The Fire, with Benicio Del Toro.

To learn how you can be a Solid Gold Soul owner or to become a charter advertiser, send an email to freddiebell950@gmail.com. Hurry! These specific offers will only be available prior to Solid Gold Soul coming on the air. The first broadcast date for the new radio enterprise will be released in the coming weeks.

Bell says the investment and advertising opportunities coupled with the ability to spin the old hits again in Minnesota is nothing short of a miracle. “I hope our fans take advantage of this unique opportunity to be a part of the New Solid Gold Soul !”

MASE CLOSE TO SIGNING WITH SRC RECORDS

Last year rapper and ordained minister Mase announced that he was joining the roster of 50 Cent’s G-Unit Records. Unfortunately Mase was still contractually obligated to Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Bad Boy Records, and Combs and 50 Cent were unable to work out a deal. It appears that the G-Unit deal is dead, as SRC Records head honcho Steve Rifkind recently announced that he’s close to finalizing a deal with the rapper.

Rifkind told XXL magazine, “We are closing the Mase deal. His album is crazy. We are doing a production and distribution deal with him. We don’t have a date for the album yet, but it will be out by the end of the year. It’s all brand new material.”

SRC Records roster currently includes: Akon, David Banner, Pharoahe Monch, and the Wu- Tang Clan.

Before his retirement in 1999, Mase released two albums: 1997’s quadruple-platinum Harlem World, and 1999’s certified-gold Double Up. The rapper released his gold-certified comeback album, Welcome Back, in 2004.

CORINNE BAILEY RAE INFLUENCED BY RADIOHEAD, BJORK AND ERYKAH BADU

Well before Corinne Bailey Rae topped the charts with the hit single “Put Your Records On,” she was an average teenager who attended an alternative church that welcomed her musical influences. As she recalls: “I really looked great at the church because our church was quite an alternative church, you know, and it was already interested in social justice and then it was quite a left wing-thinking church. And so the music that we used to play in church was like the kind of music we all listened to as teenagers. So we used to write songs that sounded like Nirvana and Radiohead and, you know, we used to change the words to Primal Scream songs and kind of inflict our music on the rest of the people in the church.”

Rae will release the second single, a remake of John Lennon’s “I’m Losing You,” from the forthcoming Instant Karma album for Amnesty International on April 23rd. Rae says on her website, “Doing this one song was a small way to raise money for Amnesty. I was happy to do it. Plus, what a great song!”

Her favorite singers have always been unique in their sound, as she describes: “A lot of performers are those people who are really individuals. So I love Bjork, I really like Erykah Badu, I love Radiohead, I love people who, as soon as you put on their song, you’re like, ‘It sounds like them!’ There’s something they do, it’s like notes that they read or the sound of their voice or the way they arrange their music or… they’ve got their own stamp and I think as a performer, you’ll eventually tap that for yourself as well.”

Corinne Bailey Rae performs tonight (April 20th) at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey, on Sunday (April 22nd) at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, New Jersey and on Monday (April 23rd) at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Inside the Mrs. Liberia Pageant!
(Fun, Friendships, & Dedication)
By: Kim Dean (Pageant Mom & Coach)

On Saturday, April 14th the audience at the Mrs. Liberia Pageant was blessed with the beauty, grace and talent of 4 incredible Liberian women and at times on their feet cheering for their favorite contestant. What they don’t know is the hard work and dedication that went into making it happen. My name is Kim Dean and I am truly proud and honored to say that I was a part of the 1st ever Mrs. Liberia Pageant and I worked one on one with these extraordinary ladies. I want to begin by saying that “Any one of these women could have been crowned and everyone of them are doing an awesome job of representing Liberian women.”. It took a lot of courage to get up on stage and present themselves in front of a room full of people. These 4 women have opened doors for other women who will follow in their footsteps. Although only one can hold the prestigious title, they are all royalty! Mrs. Joyce Carl, will be representing us all at the National pageant in July in Chicago.
Preparing for a pageant is a lot of hard work, and it was up to each of them to take what they had learned and make it happen and to have fun while doing it. All of these women went into this pageant with dedication and a strong belief in themselves, their families, community and their platform. I am so impressed by what they are doing in their communities and how they want to make a difference in the lives of other Liberian women, mothers, and wives! I am even more impressed by the support that each of them received from their husbands and families. The experience and friendships they have made will last a life time.
I highly encourage other married Liberian woman to participate. Those of you out there who are doing things in your community to make a difference and have a passion and dedication for making a change for the better in your state and Liberia should visit the website at http://www.ajeniaenterprises.com Mrs. Liberia Pageant. This is not about outer beauty; it is about Liberian women, strong Liberian women, mothers and wives taking a step towards making a difference. And that is what true beauty is about! The proceeds for this pageant are going towards helping in the building of a clinic in Caldwell, Liberia. You can contribute by contacting Mrs. Georgette Gray at 612-554-6753 or by email at ajenia@gmail.com. Congratulations to Mrs. Gray and all those who participated on a job well done and worthy of everyone’s phrases! Thank You, Thank You, Thank You……..
Do not merely look out for your own personal interest, but also for the interest of others. PHILLIPIANS 2:4

SANJAYA MALAKAR OUSTED FROM ‘IDOL,’ SIMON COWELL SHOWS HE WASN’T BEING INSENSITIVE

Pony-hawk strutting, white suit-wearing Sanjaya Malakar’s improbable run on American Idol ended last night (April 18th). Sanjaya’s departure wasn’t totally unexpected even though he was an audience favorite from the get-go — Simon Cowell called his Tuesday night (April 17th) rendition of “Something To Talk About” an “utterly horrendous” performance, and his voice was regularly criticized as one of the weakest of the Top 12.

The smiley Washington native broke down in tears when Ryan Seacrest revealed that he’d be going home instead of Lakisha Jones, the second-lowest vote-getter. But Seacrest reassured Sanjaya that “we won’t soon forget you” and the teen pulled himself together before launching into his final song.

Blake Lewis was also in the bottom three.

Sanjaya survived previous cuts on Idol mainly because he was adored by the voting public. Sanjaya said personality went a long way on Idol: “I think that a lot of it is personality ’cause most of the people that have got cut are amazing singers, so at this point … ’cause they’ve kind of filtered out the bad singers, so now I think it’s a lot of personality and performance.”

Sanjaya said he stopped voting for himself after the first round: “I voted for myself for the first time because it was just for the novelty of it. But I think that if I have to vote for myself and if I get through based on myself voting, then I shouldn’t get through and I don’t deserve it.”

DAME DASH SUES ACCOUNTANT FOR $3.5 MILLION

Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Dame Dash has filed a multi-million lawsuit against his former accountant for allegedly filing several years of erroneous tax returns on his behalf. New York’s Daily News reports that Dash hit Barry Klarberg and his company, Loring Ward, with a $3.5 million lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court.

In the lawsuit, Dash accuses Klarberg of messing up New York and New Jersey income tax returns for 2000 and 2001 and miscalculating what Dash owed in 2005. The lawsuit also alleges that Klarberg failed to tell Dash how much he profited from the sale of one of his companies.

In the past two years, Dash was bought out of Roc-A- Fella Records and Rocawear clothing.

Klarberg, who wrote Winning Tax Strategies and Planning for Athletes and Entertainers, has handled the finances of many celebrities including Justin Timberlake and former hockey star Mark Messier. .

BEYONCE SUED FOR COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT

Beyonce Knowles is being sued by British singer Des’ree for failing to obtain proper clearance to cover her song “I’m Kissing You” on the new deluxe edition of her current album, B’Day, and including it in her video anthology. Though the track was reinterpreted and retitled “Still In Love (Kissing You),” Des’ree says that copyright law was still ignored. The lawsuit, filed in Manhattan Federal Court on Tuesday (April 17th), seeks to halt distribution of the song, video and album, and asks for $150,000 in damages.

Beyonce had said in the past that she wasn’t planning on recording the song, but that she was pressured to by people who insisted she’d be “crazy” not to. The song was originally performed by Des’ree, who co- wrote it with Timothy Atack. It was featured in the film Romeo + Juliet.

A hearing to show cause has been scheduled for Monday (April 23rd).

Des’ree is best known for her 1994 hit “You Gotta Be.”

50 Cent’s Baby Mama Gets Support

Remember a few months ago when 50 Cent went to the courts asking them to regulate is child support payments?

Well, he got his wish.

On Monday, the rapper was ordered by Suffolk County Support Magistrate Aletha V. Fields-Ferraro to immediately pay $10,000 for the support of his son, Marquise Diamond Jackson, 10. The boy’s mom, Shaniqua Tompkins, was also granted $15,000 in monthly expenses. And Fitty was already in a bad mood. When he arrived at the courthouse with a posse of four, he balked at going through metal detectors and caused a commotion as he vainly demanded VIP treatment. Their next court date is June 11.

SNOOP DOGG’S ‘HOOD OF HORROR’ IN THEATERS MAY 4TH

Snoop Dogg’s rap-heavy horror anthology Snoop Dogg’s Hood of Horror will finally be in theaters on May 4th, featuring the rapper as the “Crib Keeper” who presents “three grisly morality tales that blend horror, anime, live action and a strong dose of gallows humor, partially inspired by the classic comic book series Tales of the Crypt.”

Snoop stars as Devin, a murdered thug who must make up for his misdeeds by ushering his fellow sinners to their hellish end. The film also stars Ernie Hudson, Danny Trejo, Lin Shaye, Anson Mount, Brande Roderick, Daniella Alonso, Pooch Hall, Sydney Tamiia Poitier, WWF wrestler Diamond Dallas Page, Aries Spears, NBA players Lamar Odom and Tayshaun Prince, Billy Dee Williams, Jason Alexander, Method Man, and NFL stars Teyo Johnson, Justin Fargas and Glenn Cadrez.

Xenon Pictures originally scheduled a narrower release, late last year. However, they have now rescheduled the film to go up against Spider- Man 3, in hopes of getting spillover that other studios are afraid to release any other films at that time.

GLADYS KNIGHT HONORED

Gladys Knight will receive the 16th annual Ella Award from the Society of Singers on September 10th in Los Angeles. The prestigious award is named after the honor’s first recipient, the late Ella Fitzgerald, and salutes performers for “for their musical successes and dedication to charitable and humanitarian causes.”

MACY GRAY’S NEW ALBUM ISN’T AS ‘BIG’ AS EXPECTED

Singer and actress Macy Gray released her new album, Big, late last month and the set has sold a disappointing 33,000 copies since its been in stores. The album is Gray’s first release in four years and her first for Will.I.Am’s label and Geffen Records. The first single from the new album is “Finally Made Me Happy” featuring Natalie Cole.

Gray, who was born Natalie McIntyre, shared what she listened to as a child. She said: “When I was a kid I listened to a lot of, like, Billie Holiday, Sly Stone and Stevie Nicks. I listened to a lot of hip-hop. The phrasing in hip-hop is really interesting. So, I think I was just lucky that I had that. I had some great influences and I picked up on ’em.”

The singer added: “The ’60s and the ’70s was a huge music era and I think a lot of what everybody’s, you know it’s like the basis of hip-hop and rock and pop and everything that’s out today came from that time.”

33 DEAD IN SHOOTING RAMPAGE AT VIRGINIA TECH

A gunman who opened fire in two separate locations, two hours apart on the campus of Virginia Tech killed 32 people before killing himself in the deadliest shooting rampage in U.S. history yesterday (April 16th). As of press time, police authorities hadn’t identified the attacker, but reports from students who’d seen him said he was an Asian man in his mid-20s. The first shooting took place at around 7:15 a.m. in a co-ed dorm where two people were killed. Media reports indicated that a man who was arguing with his ex-girlfriend killed her and a resident assistant who tried to intervene. Then, some two hours later, the shooter began firing into classrooms at an engineering building on the other side of campus. He killed 30 people there before killing himself. After the rampage, students complained that there was no warning from the school after the first shooting, with the first notice coming in an e-mail more than two hours later — around the same time the second attack began. But Virginia Tech President Charles Steger defended the school’s actions in an afternoon news conference, saying authorities had believed the dorm shooting was an isolated domestic dispute and thought the gunman had fled the campus.

POLICE CLOSE TO MAKING ARREST IN JAM MASTER JAY MURDER CASE

Authorities are close to making an arrest in relation to the 2002 murder of Run-DMC’s Jam Master Jay. Ronald “Tenard” Washington, an associate of the late deejay, is expected to be charged as an accessory to his murder and in relation to the 1995 murder of Randy “Stretch” Walker, who was a friend of Tupac Shakur and a member of Live Squad, a group signed to Tommy Boy Records in the ’90s.

The Boston Herald reports that new information about the two deaths came to light during Washington’s trial for a string of robberies he committed in November 2002. Washington, who is currently behind bars, told the Herald, “They want to blame me for all the blood in rap. They are trying to pen me up for these murders.”

Washington was identified by Lydia High, the receptionist at Jam Master Jay’s studio and the man who forced her to lay face down as another man murdered the rap legend. But according to Washington, it’s all lies. He said, “It’s all lies. She’s telling them that I was mad at Jay because he is doing better than I am, that I killed Stretch because he owed me something and I wanted it. She is making up lies because they threatened to deport her.”

According to Washington, he was at Jam Master Jay’s Queens studio the day he died but earlier because Jay requested his presence because he was in need of protection. According to Washington, Jam Master Jay had pulled out a gun on a person named “Goldie” the night before over a money dispute.

Washington, who was found guilty of six armed robberies on April 6th, is expected to be charged with being an accessory to the two murders in the coming days.

Jam Master Jay’s murder had remained unsolved for several years, as have the murders of Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G. His group mate DMC explained that many murders remain unresolved in the inner city. He said: “There’s a lot of murders that go down in the ‘hood, so Jam Master Jay is just one amongst thousands of people that we know whose murders are unsolved, and he represents a problem in society.”

KANYE WEST POSTPONES WEDDING

Kanye West and his fiancee Alexis Rainey have postponed their wedding plans, according to a friend of the bride to be, reports FemalefirstUK. The wedding was supposed to take place later this year. Since Kanye announced his engagement last year, there have been numerous rumors about him and other females, including Pamela Anderson.

The marriage would be the first marriage for both West and Rainey.

LLOYD SAYS HE STOLE SONG FROM USHER

R&B singer Lloyd’s latest single “Get It Shawty” was originally written for Usher, he told MTV, but Lloyd convinced Usher to let him record it, and the rest is history.

Lloyd told MTV, “I was working in the studio with producer Jazze Pha one day and Usher’s brother James ‘J. Lack’ Lackey came by… he accidentally played me a song called ‘Get It Shawty.’ Usher was there and he kind of waved him off, like, ‘No, what are you doing? You’re not supposed to play that.’ I was just so in love with the song that I had Jazze kind of call them every day and tell them how much I wanted to record it. Usher and J. Lack actually invited me to the crib, and we recorded it at their studio.”

Lloyd says, ‘”I know Usher wants to showcase J. Lack’s talent on his next project. So I would go as far as to say, yeah, ‘Get It Shawty’ was probably for Usher’s album.”

Lloyd has worked with Lil Wayne, Ashanti, Fabolous, DJ Khaled and DJ Drama.

Lloyd has recently released his second album called Street Love.

MUSIQ SAYS HE WANTS TO MAKE A RAP ALBUM ONE DAY

Musiq Soulchild is still promoting his latest album and Atlantic Records debut, Luvanmusiq, but the singer recently shared that he wants to do a rap project in the future. The singer told MTV.com, “I’ve always been a fan of hip-hop and I wanted to be a valid contributor to hip-hop music … I don’t know, I might do a rap record later on in my career, once I get my chops up. What I’m listening to is a lot of hip-hop music, like J Dilla and Black Milk. Lupe Fiasco, Game, Nas, Jay-Z. Definitely, I would like to work with any of those dudes. ”

Musiq added, “I’m doing a lot of homework on it because, like I said, I want to be a valid contributor to the legacy (of) hip-hop music, even to the extent of putting out a rap record. But I don’t wanna be one of those artists that crosses over to hip-hop just to say I did it. You have a lot of people that live and breathe it, and I don’t wanna disrespect the craft. If I’m gonna do it, I want to do the work just as much as anybody else.”

The latest single from Luvanmusiq is “Buddy.”

JENNIFER LOPEZ AND MARC ANTHONY TO SUE NATIONAL ENQUIRER

Jennifer Lopez and her husband, Marc Anthony, are suing the National Enquirer in European courts over the tabloid’s claims they were linked to a drug scandal, reports the Associated Press. The couple’s Belfast lawyer, Paul Tweed, said that Lopez, 38, and Anthony, 37, were seeking “a six-figure settlement” from the Enquirer, based in Boca Raton, Florida, and its parent company, American Media Inc.

According to Tweed, the lawsuit also seeks an apology and retraction for an article that appeared in different versions of the Enquirer’s U.S. and international editions. The first version, published March 12th in British and Irish editions, alleged the couple were “caught up in a heroin scandal” — and reprinted a 2004 picture of Anthony standing beside photographer Michael Star, who is currently facing charges of heroin possession and child pornography in the U.S.

The article quoted an alleged friend of Star as saying Star and Anthony were friends.

Tweed told the AP this was untrue, and that Anthony didn’t know Star even as an acquaintance. Anthony posed for the 2004 photograph, Tweed said, just like the singer does with his backstage concert fans.

Then there is this: fresh off the release of her latest Spanish-language album, Como Ama Una Mujer, J-Lo is already planning a second release before the end of the year. “I have an (English-language) album that’s coming out this year that I’m finishing up right now,” she told MTV Europe. “First single in June, so it’s a big musical year for me.”

Lopez also hopes to tour in support of Como Ama Una Mujer, although tour dates have not yet been announced.

Como Ama Una Mujer is currently topping Billboard’s Latin Albums chart and dropped from its peak, at Number 10 on the Billboard 200 chart, to number 45 this week.

MICHAEL JACKSON’S A GOOD DAD, MAGAZINE SAYS

Michael Jackson is a great dad, according to Jamie Foster Brown, the publisher of Sister 2 Sister magazine, who traveled with Jackson and his kids to Japan last month, reports TMZ.

Foster Brown told the New York Daily News’s Rush and Molloy, “I just noticed also how nice the kids were, they’re not privileged at all. They have a lot of fun with Michael. They’re intelligent, extremely well- spoken, and they like to play jokes. He just seemed to be a good parent… more so than most of us!”

Foster Brown also told Rush and Molloy that Prince Michael and Prince Michael II did not have their faces covered while indoors, but they did put their scarves on their face when they went outside.

Jackson’s mom Katherine Jackson was on the trip as well.

BEYONCE AND CHICO DEBARGE 411!

What has never really been mentioned is Beyonce’s little romance with Chico Debarge YES, CHICO DEBARGE – they use to date back when she was with Destiny’s Child. It was all very secretive. The girls would stay at the Beverly Wilshire when they came to Los Angeles – The Wilshire is not far from a small boutique hotel where Chico DeBarge was a regular. Ms. Beyonce would slip over to his hotel for late night visits and leave in the AM. This was an upper crust hotel so not too many of the workers knew who she or he was, a few of them did and one night they heard them having very loud sex. One time Mr. Knowles came to the hotel ENRAGED because he found out Beyonce had been sneaking away at night to spend time with low class, jail bird Chico Debarge. He put an end to that relationship with the QUICKNESS for two reasons. 1- He thought Chico was low class and he knew Beyonce was on her way to being a superstar. Beyonce didn’t care because she was in love, but her dad set her straight. 2 – She got pregnant with his child and well. She was deep into it with Chico, her first real love. I’m just saying!

RUMOR: JAY-Z TO LEAVE DEF JAM AND START SUPER LABEL WITH BEYONCE

We all have heard the rumors that Jay Z and Beyonce are getting married. But it now looks like the two may have another partnership deal in the works. According to several industry talks, Jay Z will announce he’s leaving his position at Def Jam by the years end to create a new “super label” with Beyonce.

The new label is expected to launch early next year once Beyonce is scheduled to complete her final album under a deal with Sony this fall. The final 3 albums of the deal, B’Day (released September 5, 2006), B’Day Deluxe (released April 5, 2007) and a live album (to be released later this year), will have all been released within a year of each other.

It’s not clear yet which major label will house the new super label. But it probably won’t be Island Def Jam. Apparently Jay-Z approached Def Jam with the idea but the label thought the asking price was too steep. Now they’re shopping the deal around to the other majors and to Apple [the creator of iTunes] – who has been very interested in doing business with several rap labels recently.

If Def Jam chooses not to sign the “super label”, the might feel the backlash from it as some of Def Jam’s hottest acts may go with Jay Z, who has a clause in his [Def Jam] contract that says he can buy the rights to any artist he’s signed – that would include Rihanna, Ne-Yo, and Nas.

Interesting. Lets just see how this shapes out

LIL ROMEO SIGNS LETTER OF INTENT WITH U.S.C.

Rapper and actor Lil Romeo will put his entertainment career on hold come September 2008 when he enrolls at the University of Southern California. Allhiphop.com reports that the 5-foot-11 rapper has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for the U.S.C. Trojans.

Romeo, who attends Beverly Hills High School, is the first national hip hop star to land a full athletic scholarship to college. Romeo’s younger brother, Vercy Miller, is also signing with the Trojans as is standout shooting guard DeMar DeRozan of Compton High School.

Romeo’s father Master P received an athletic scholarship to the University of Houston but he injured his knee. He later resumed his career and fell just short of making the NBA. Master P shared that he definitely didn’t want Romeo to become a rapper. He was hoping he would be a doctor or lawyer or pro basketball player. Master P said: “Definitely didn’t want him to do this because I’m, like, he didn’t need to — it’s just in his system. And you know he did good in school — that’s my child — and, I mean, I think anybody is gonna go out their way for their children.”

The rapper added: “You know and it was something he wanted to do. He was, like, always in the studio, and I’m, like, ‘Man, leave that alone. Go be a doctor or lawyer or something,’ you know what I’m sayin’? ‘Go be a professional basketball player or something,’ you know, but it’s just in him. You know what I’m sayin’? And when it’s in somebody, you definitely can’t stop it.”

J. PRINCE RESPONDS TO LAWSUIT

Rap-A-Lot Records founder J. Prince is speaking out against a lawsuit recently filed against him by Houston music executive Ronnie Bookman. According to the lawsuit, Prince lured Bookman to Fresh Recreation Center Gym in Houston on the pretense that he would sign a release to allow Bun B to appear on one of Bookman’s projects in exchange for a reduced rate on some studio time. Bookman alleges in the lawsuit that during the meeting he was jumped by seven men. He is suing Prince for breach of contract, battery, unfair competition, duress, conspiracy and unjust enrichment.

Prince has denied any wrongdoing. He told Allhiphop.com, “Through my years in this music, I’ve been falsely accused and sued by many, which none of them were successful. I guess this is a new season where drug dealing rats and parasite lawyers are out to extort me. If anyone with good sense would pull this guy Ronnie Bookman’s record, they would see how bad his credibility stinks. The true facts will be revealed in a court of law.”

According to Bookman, Prince changed his mind about their deal after hearing that he was in the process of securing distribution with Warner Brothers. The music executive is also seeking a court order that would bar Prince and any business associate from coming 500 feet within his home or business.

RAPPERS UNDER SCRUTINY AFTER IMUS INCIDENT

Following Don Imus’ termination by CBS last week for making a racist and sexist statement about the Rutgers University female basketball team, many commentators are turning their ire towards rap music. Russell Simmons told MTV.com, “Hip-hop is a worldwide cultural phenomena that transcends race and doesn’t engage in racial slurs. Don Imus’ racially motivated diatribe toward the Rutgers women’s basketball team was in no way connected to hip-hop culture. … Don Imus is not a hip-hop artist or a poet. Hip-hop artists rap about what they see, hear and feel around them, their experience of the world.”

Simmons added, “Like the artists throughout history, their messages are a mirror of what is right and wrong with society. Sometimes their observations or the way in which they choose to express their art may be uncomfortable for some to hear, but our job is not to silence or censor that expression. Our job is to be an inclusive voice for the hip-hop community and to help create an environment that encourages the positive growth of hip-hop.” Reverend Al Sharpton shared his take on the situation. He said, “We have for a while said to the hip-hop community that we believe in free speech, but at the same time, we also have the right to say this whole sexist, racist overuse of the word ‘n***a’ and ‘ho’ we need to deal with in our community. We need to deal with how there are many artists that are conscious and progressive that can’t get a (recording) contract. So this is nothing new.”

Sharpton continued, “We need to have that dialogue. That’s why I want to meet with people like Snoop Dogg and other artists that want to have that dialogue and see where we can come to common ground. Some guys are just exploiters and don’t care. I do think some guys just disagree with me but wanna sit down and see where we can go, ’cause something must be done so that we can’t be distorted against each other. Those that are sincere, I wanna sit down with. Those that just don’t care and are exploiters and wanna call people whatever and don’t care about the consequences, those are the guys we are going after.”

Meanwhile, Russell Simmons and Lyor Cohen will be holding a ‘closed door’ meeting with artists and executives from the Hip-Hop/urban community for a discussion on the future of Hip-Hop. For the full story log on!

MARIO READY TO GO BACK TO HIS DAY JOB

After appearing on Freedom Writers earlier this year opposite Hilary Swank, Mario is ready to go back to his day job as an R&B singer.

The singer will release his new album, Go!, on July 17th. MTV.com reports that the album features production by Timbaland, the Neptunes, Akon, Mr. Collipark, Polow Da Don, Sean Garrett, Dre & Vidal, Warren Campbell and Jim Jonsin.

Mario explained, “I worked with a lot of different people (for this album). And you got to talk with the writers and producers and really be in front of it and really give your perspective on things. That’s the best way to go — be involved and creatively help to come up with certain situations that cater to who you are.”

The singer shared that while working with Akon he opened up about his experiences growing up in Baltimore. Mario said, “I kind of went in and told Akon about a lot of the personal things I experienced. I didn’t want to do a club record or, like, a fun record. I wanted to do a more serious record that would cater to some of the people who may have experienced what I have.”

As for his acting career, Mario explained, “I’ve been struggling with (picking) what to do. It’s been difficult for me. Of course I want to do something that’s top of the line and amazing, but I also don’t want to rush and put myself in a pressured situation, ’cause it may not be pulled off as well. So I’m still really working on that. I’m still working on finding the right next role. Hopefully by the end of the summer I’ll be shooting the next one.” The first single and video from Go! is “Breathe.”

JENNIFER LOPEZ RELISHED ‘IDOL’ EXPERIENCE

American Idol has become the go-to spot for established artists to strut their stuff, which is just what Jennifer Lopez did as musical guest last week. Lopez worked with contestants on their song delivery and then showed them how it was done with a performance Wednesday night (April 11th).

Lopez brought pyrotechnics, dancers, and back-up singers for her performance, and she said she had a blast doing it: “There’s such a great energy here. There’s so much excitement and we just wanted to come and have a good time and I had a great time working with the kids and I had a great time on stage with my girls and my band and everything and it was good.”

Lopez also said she was proud to introduce the vast American Idol audience to her new work: “I’ve been working on this album for like three years so for me it was such a great thing to be able to finally, me and Mark were talking about it, on stage singing these songs finally after three years of working on them.”

Lopez got to know the Idol contestants fairly well during her time on the show but she said she wouldn’t reveal her favorites, “I can’t tell because now that I know all of them I feel like I’d be talking behind their backs.”

FOREST WHITAKER RECEIVING WALK OF FAME STAR

Oscar winner Forest Whitaker becomes a literal fixture in Hollywood with the unveiling of his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Whitaker is the 2,335th person to receive the sidewalk honor, and it’ll be presented to him during a ceremony attended by his Phone Booth co-star Kiefer Sutherland and Angela Bassett, star of his feature film directing debut Waiting To Exhale.

Whitaker won almost every acting award around this year for his portrayal of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in The Last King Of Scotland.

Despite his many accolades for the performance, Whitaker said his best work is still to come: “I got so many things, characters I haven’t played, I can’t tell you. I mean, with the right script, with the right character, I’m gonna do my best work coming up. Because I just figured out really, I think, how to do my work, really, recently, over the last few years. I mean, I feel proud of some of the things, but I just really just figured it out, I think, a little bit. I want to see what happens.”

RECORD BREAKING DIVORCE SETTLEMENT

Michael Jordan’s pending divorce from his wife of nearly 18 years, Chicago bank officer Juanita Vanoy, could end up as the most expensive in entertainment history if his estranged spouse walks away with half his fortune. With Jordan having earned much of his wealth during his marriage, most of it through endorsement deals, Vanoy (who filed for divorce last year) stands to collect more than $150 million, says Forbes magazine.

DONALD TRUMP IS AMERICA’S ‘UNSEXIEST’ MAN

The Apprentice star Donald Trump is flooded with cash but in dire need of some sex appeal, according to the Boston Phoenix. Trump topped the paper’s annual “100 Unsexiest Men In America” list thanks to his “pursed lips and scrunched, pineal stare.” The paper also cites his comb-over, greed, and bullying as contributing factors to his low sex appeal.

Second on the list was Ken Davitian, the actor who wrestled naked with Sacha Baron Cohen in the Borat movie and “makes you want to rip your eyes out of their sockets” in the process. Tom Cruise, foul-mouthed Seinfeld alum Michael Richards, American Idol heartbreaker Sanjaya Malakar, and The Sopranos’ lead James Gandolfini also made the list.

JENNIFER HUDSON SINGS NATIONAL ANTHEM FOR JACKIE ROBINSON DAY

Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson sang the National Anthem for Jackie Robinson Day, at Sunday’s San Diego Padres vs Los Angeles Dodgers game at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles.

Hudson celebrated the 60th anniversary of Robinson’s entry into Major League Baseball. It was the fourth annual “Jackie Robinson Day” for Major League Baseball.

This is the second time Hudson sang for Major League Baseball. In 2006 she sang “God Bless America” for the 2006 World Series opener, in Detroit. Hudson is currently working on her own album.

PARIS HILTON LEAVES SEX TOY AT CLUB

Hotel heiress Paris Hilton usually hits the town with a tight circle of friends, and the other night, she left one of her dearest pals behind. Gossip columnist Cindy Adams says that The Simple Life star emerged from a night of partying in Hollywood without her most prized possession — a battery operated sex toy shaped like a man’s privates. The “woman’s best friend” was in the pocket of a jacket Hilton left at the club, and staffers discovered it when Hilton’s minions called to see if the cover-up was still there.

Hilton and on-again-off-again best friend Nicole Richie are currently working as camp counselors for a new season of The Simple Life. Their most colorful task to date has been to give enemas to fitness camp students.

New episodes begin May 28th on E!.

MACY GRAY’S COLLABORATION WITH JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE WASN’T HER IDEA AT FIRST

Macy Gray releases “Finally Made Me Happy” from her new release, Big. The album was a two-year effort and she had originally hoped to work exclusively with producer Will.i.am, but had a change of plans when his prior obligations with the Black Eyed Peas pulled him away. “Will and I were doing my album, then he got really, really busy with the Black Eyed Peas touring,” she told NME. “Then he got really in demand as a producer and had a lot of opportunities he didn’t want to turn down… So I was kind of forced to work with other people because he was so busy.”

Fortunately, her work with Justin Timberlake — who was just one of many who dueted with her, including Fergie, Nas and Natalie Cole — wound up being a pleasant surprise. “It wasn’t in the original plan,” she conceded, “but it worked out great.”

Gray is scheduled to appear on The Tonight Show on April 26th and Jimmy Kimmel Live on May 3rd.

CORINNE BAILEY RAE READY TO BEGIN WORK ON SECOND ALBUM

Although Corinne Bailey Rae gives her audiences her all during her tour with John Legend, she’s still counting the days until she can return to the studio to create the follow-up to her hugely successful self-titled debut. “When I get back from this tour, I’m going to have quite a big break,” she told Billboard.com. “Over that time, I guess I’ll start writing and starting to get my head in that mode again, going from performing all the time and doing lots of promotion to actually being more creative again. I’m really looking forward to writing more. I can’t wait for that — for the next phase of things.”

Rae’s tour with Legend runs through May 4th, after which she’ll perform at New Orleans hotspot Tipitina’s on the 5th, followed by Memphis’ Beale Street Music Festival the next day. That leaves her a two month break to begin work on her next disc before her July 7th performance at the Live Earth show at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Her third single off of Corinne Bailey Rae, titled “I’d Like To,” has been released to radio.

ALICIA KEYS PUSHES ALBUM BACK

Alicia Keys has pushed back the release of her new album from June to October, ostensibly because of her acting schedule, reports the New York Daily News. However, the Daily News reports the real reason for the album delay is that Keys is not happy that promotions director Ken Wilson is no longer with J Records.

Keys’ representative denies Keys is upset about Wilson’s departure.

Smokin’ Aces, in which Keys appeared, comes out on video this week.

Keys is also appearing in the film The Nanny Diaries, which hits theaters in September.

SNOOP DOGG AVOIDS JAIL TIME

Rapper and actor Snoop Dogg entered a plea of no contest to weapons and drug charges in order to avoid jail time in two separate cases. The rapper was arrested in October, 2006, and November, 2006, in Burbank, California.

First the rapper was arrested after performing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Burbank police executed a search warrant and placed him under arrest. The arresting officers found marijuana, cocaine, a firearm and a false compartment in his car.

He was also arrested for attempting to board an airplane with a collapsible baton at the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, California.

Snoop Dogg was lucky that a three-year sentence was suspended if he agreed to serve five years formal probation and to perform 800 hours of community service.

His lawyer Donald Etra said in a released statement, “Snoop accepts full responsibility for these matters. He understands that, while he has every reason to seek security and protection, he cannot have a gun in his own vehicle, and he must only employ licensed security personnel. By the same token, although Snoop possesses a medical marijuana certificate, he recognizes, he cannot possess more marijuana than permitted by that law.”

Etra added, “This was an expedited way of resolving these matters. It permits Snoop to get back to what he does best, namely, entertaining his fans through his music and films as well as serving his community as coach of his 2000 member youth football league. Snoop appreciates the courtesy and cooperation extended to him by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, which was very helpful in resolving these matters.”

PROOF FEATURED IN NEW DOCUMENTARY

D12 member Proof was murdered a year ago in a Detroit after hours nightclub, but his fans will get another chance to see the man in action via the new documentary, Time A Tell. Allhiphop.com reports that the documentary takes an in-depth look at the Detroit rap scene and features clips of Proof and DJ Jewels in the studio as they put together a complete 18-track CD full of original lyrics and beats within 24 hours for a segment called The Challenge. Time A Tell is presented by Jewels, Priceless Music and Proof’s Iron Fist Records. The film will premiere at 8 p.m. tonight (April 12th), at the GM Theater in the Charles H. Wright Museum in Detroit.

According to published accounts of what transpired, Proof, whose real name was Deshaun Holton, got into an altercation with Keith Bender, a bouncer at the CCC, an after hours club on Detroit’s Eight Mile Road, on April 11th, 2006. The fight escalated and Proof reportedly pistol-whipped Bender and shot him in the face. It was determined that Bender’s cousin, Mario Etheridge, who was also a bouncer, shot Holton in self-defense after Holton shot Bender.

Etheridge was convicted of carrying a concealed weapon and the discharge of a firearm in a dwelling or occupied structure. He was released after spending six months in jail.

NOT ONE… BUT TWO (2) WARRANTS FOR DMX

DMX missed another scheduled court date in White Plains City Court this week. The rapper, born Earl Simmons, skipped a pretrial conference related to various driving violations related to a June 2 incident in which X was stopped for driving his SUV at high speeds. DMX was also ticketed for making an unsafe lane change and was not wearing a seat belt when he was pulled over.

This week, a judge gave the rapper a one-day reprieve but ordered DMX to appear in court yesterday or a warrant would be issued for his arrest. Sure enough… DMX missed court yet again… and an arrest warrant was issued. DMX is charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle for driving with a suspended license.

He was also issued tickets for the unsafe lane change violations. Simmons failed to appear in court last summer to answer the charges and an arrest warrant was issued for the rapper.

‘SCARY SPICE’ MEL B LISTS EDDIE MURPHY AS DAD ON BABY’S BIRTH CERTIFICATE

“Scary Spice” Melanie Brown has listed Eddie Murphy as the father of her newborn baby on the child’s birth certificate, reports People.

Murphy and Brown dated for a number of months, but broke up before she officially announced she was pregnant. Murphy said on Dutch television that he was not certain the child was his, and said he would demand a paternity test.

LUMIDEE NAMED YOUTH AMBASSADOR FOR 2007 ARTHRITIS WALK

Singer and rapper Lumidee has been named Youth Ambassador for the New York City Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation’s 2007 Arthritis Walk. May is national Arthritis Month but the Manhattan Arthritis Walk is scheduled for Sunday, April 29th at Battery Park. Lumidee said in a released statement, “I was 14 years old when I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. At 19 years old, the doctors said I would never walk. I worked hard and all that hard word paid off when I was able to dance in my latest music video. I want to give other young people the confidence they need to stop this disease from controlling their lives and ask everyone to come out and join the fight against arthritis by participating in the 2007 Arthritis Walk.”

Jay B. Adlersberg M.D., the 2007 Battery Park Arthritis Walk Chairman, added, “We are proud to have her as our Youth Ambassador for this year’s walk. We hope that her participation will inspire the 300,000 young people suffering from arthritis in our country.”

In related news, Lumidee’s new album, Unexpected, hits stores next week. The latest single from the project is “She’s Like The Wind” featuring Tony Sunshine. The album also features guest appearances by NORE, Shaggy, Pitbull, Jim Jones, and Snoop Dogg.

Lumidee is a complete artist. She sings, raps, and writes. The Spanish Harlem native explained: “Get the album, read the credits. I write all my songs, sing, you know. I write, record, sing all my songs. Come to the show, you’ll see.”

Fans shouldn’t expect to hear any rumors that the singer is having money problems as she’s been saving since signing her first deal with Universal Records in 2003. At the time, the singer said: “I haven’t gotten a car or anything yet. I’m still trying to stay on ground, like, focused on this. Not trying to get like, ‘Oh let me get this new car, and get rims, and get this.'”

JANET JACKSON LOSES BID TO HAVE LAWSUIT THROWN OUT

Janet Jackson’s lawyer lost a bid to have a $120 million assault lawsuit thrown out of court.

SOHH.com reports that Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Rolando Acosta decided that a $120 million assault suit against Jackson can move forward and ordered the singer to give a deposition under oath. The lawsuit stems from an incident that occurred at Club Marquee in February of 2004, where two of Jackson’s bodyguards allegedly grabbed and choked 41-year-old Leonard Salati when he attempted to pass the singer a note.

Jackson and her legal team attempted to have the case tossed by saying she and Jermaine Dupri were accompanied by one bodyguard, a 5- foot-8 Caucasian man, weighing only 180 pounds. Salati alleges that he was manhandled by two 300- pound African American men.

According to the Judge Acosta, representatives for Club Marquee, which is also a party to the lawsuit, maintain that Jackson was with at least three bodyguards that night and at least two were African American.

Judge Acosta said in his ruling, “Notwithstanding counsel’s valiant effort to shield Ms. Jackson, the law grants no exemptions based on celebrity status.” He added that Jackson would have to give a deposition.

NEWS YOU CAN USE: CBS Fires Imus From Radio Show And Tony Blair Blames Rise In Violence On Black Culture

CBS Fires Imus From Radio Show And Tony Blair Blames Rise In Violence On Black Culture CBS announced yesterday (April 12th) that it had fired Don Imus from his radio show, effective immediately, for his comments last week calling the mostly African- American members of Rutgers University’s women’s basketball team, quote, “nappy-headed hos.” CBS made the announcement one day after MSNBC dropped its simulcast broadcast of Imus’ show. Imus’ show had earned about $15 million in annual revenue for CBS, which owns his home radio station WFAN-AM in New York, and manages Westwood One, the company that syndicates the show to 61 stations nationally. Meanwhile, Imus met with members of the basketball team last night at the governor’s mansion in New Jersey. After what was reportedly an emotional, hours-long meeting, everyone left without making a statement. CNN reported that when asked if they’d accepted Imus’ apology, coach C. Vivian Stringer said they were all tired and weren’t in a position to say anything.

Meanwhile, Britain got its very own version of Don Imus Wednesday after the nation’s prime minister, Tony Blair, raised the ire of black leaders by blaming a rise in the murder rate on black culture, reports The Guardian.

T.I. SET TO RELEASE NEW SINGLE

Grammy Award winner T.I. is almost done with his new album, T.I. vs. T.I.P., which he plans to release this summer. MTV.com reports that the rapper will release the lead single from the project, “Big Things Poppin’,” next week. The song was produced by Mannie Fresh. T.I. explained the concept behind the song, noting, “‘Big Things Poppin’ is really just me talking to these people who say things and can’t back it up. You know how some people say, ‘Money talks and bulls**t runs a marathon’? I’m saying the equivalent of that.”

T.I. vs. T.I.P. will feature collaborations with Eminem, Ciara, and Nelly.

BOW WOW IS DOING HIS PART TO STOP UNDERAGE DRINKING

Rapper and actor Bow Wow has hooked up with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company to spread the word against underage drinking during prom season. Bow Wow performed at Sam Houston High School in Houston to kick-off MADD’s THINK.Prom program which asks students to pledge to be alcohol and drug- free during prom.

MADD National President Glynn Birch said in a released statement, “We are proud to work with Nationwide to provide the THINK.Prom program because the choices students make today impact their lives tomorrow. We are asking teens to leave alcohol out of prom, never ride with someone who’s been drinking and to buckle up. We want students to remember every detail of one of the biggest nights of the year.”

Bow Wow added, “People don’t understand what comes with being famous. There are pressures as an artist and an individual. The choice to not drink underage or use drugs is a personal choice. It’s not always the easiest choice to make, but I’ve decided not to do the party scene, and it’s the right choice for me and my life as a rapper, actor and entrepreneur.”

According to published statistics, during prom weekends in 2005, 290 young people ages 15-20 were killed in alcohol-related crashes. 198 of the 290 deaths involved a 15-20-year-old impaired driver.

Bow Wow is still promoting his latest album, The Price of Fame.

LIL MAMA SET TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM

Jive recording artist Lil Mama will release her debut album, V.Y.P. (The Voice of The Young People), this summer. The first single from the project is “Lip Gloss.” The album will feature the production of Swizz Beatz, Dame Grease, and Scram Jones.

The teen rapper explained why she plans to have longevity. She said: “Yes I definitely feel that I’m going to have longevity in my craft because this is what I do. This is what I love and this is something that I’m great at.”

Lil Mama, who wrote her entire debut album, explained why she didn’t use any ghost writers. She said: “Like, a lot of people say, ‘Why don’t you have someone write for you sometimes.’ It’s not that I have a problem with someone writing for me sometimes but they can’t express how I feel. Like you can give me the topic and I can write it for myself because I know where I want to come from with that subject that you are making this song around.”

RIHANNA SEXING UP HER IMAGE

Barbados-born singer Rihanna plans to match the title of her upcoming album, Good Girl Gone Bad, with a correspondingly raunchy image. Already sexy, she’s planning on kicking it up a notch, telling Britain’s Sun, “I have changed my image. The whole sound is about me not being the little innocent Rihanna and taking more risks.”

“I have broken out of my shell,” continued the Jay-Z protege, adding, “I have come into my own.” Rihanna doesn’t say exactly how she plans to “slut it up,” but there have been no announcements of any appearances in the actual Girls Gone Wild video series thus far.

FERGIE SENDS BUTT-SHAPED CAKE TO ALANIS MORRISETTE

Fergie sent Alanis Morissette a special cake in the shape of a butt, congratulating her on her video remake of the Black Eyed Peas’ “My Humps,” which has been a runaway success on YouTube, reports People. A note on the cake read, “Alanis, you’re a genius.”

People also said that previous reports of Fergie sending flowers to Morissette are not true. In other news, TMZ reports Fergie is dissing Nelly Furtado on her new song with Daddy Yankee, called “Impacto.” Fergie says on the song, “I ain’t promiscuous, the realest chick up in this… I’ma pull your wig back!”

PAULA ABDUL NERVOUS ABOUT VISITING NEW ORLEANS THIS WEEKEND

Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson are sprinkling a little bit of American Idol fairy dust on the Big Easy this weekend. The pair are going to New Orleans to shoot a segment for the show in which they’ll meet with Hurricane Katrina victims to lift their spirits. As with Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell’s trip to Africa, the trek is part promotion, part charity.

Abdul said, “I’m really eager to make a difference if I can, and I think with the two of us going down there, we’re going to connect instantaneously with the kids and with the families.”

Abdul hasn’t been to New Orleans since Katrina hit, and she said she’s nervous about what she’ll see: “I’m only am… I have a lot of… like my heart of kind of beating extra, a little extra. I just feel… I’m a little nervous to see what I’m going to see.”

FORMER ‘AMERICAN IDOL’ CONTESTANT GOES ‘HARDCORE’

Olivia Mojica didn’t have much luck on the second season of American Idol but she has another shot a fame through the porn industry. The Texas native is the star of a sex tape going on sale May 3rd that’s being promoted by its distributors as “really hot” and “dirty.” Mojica made the tape with her boyfriend last month in New York, and she has the dubious distinction of being the first contestant from Idol to have a hardcore sex video. It’s appropriately titled Hardcore Idol.

The video is being distributed by Vivid Entertainment, the same outfit behind the Kim Kardashian/Ray J sex tape. The company said it acquired Mojica’s footage legally, and is trying to contact her for promotional efforts and revenue sharing.

Mojica was ranked as one of the “best of the rest” Idol contestants in 2003.

MOVIE OPENINGS TODAY

‘PERFECT STRANGER’

A reporter played by Halle Berry assumes two new identities to get to the bottom of a friend’s murder. She pretends to be a temp at an ad agency in order to establish a professional relationship with the man she thinks offed her pal, and at the same time, she creates an Internet persona to get close to the man from another angle. Bruce Willis and Giovanni Ribisi co-star. Halle said Bruce Willis was a perfect choice for Perfect Stranger: “It was really, really great. He’s wonderful in this movie. He’s perfectly cast. He had a real handle on who this guy was and what motivated him and, he’s wonderful in the movie.” Bruce calls Perfect Stranger an urban thriller: “It’s a thriller. It’s an urban, smart, fast-paced who-done-it. You know, who killed who? Who is doing who? Who is doing what, when.”
