He is the prodigy who has become the power, the little tot who grew into the big boss, the man with the skill and the smarts and the ability to do what is most important in sports — be at his best when the best is demanded.
Another major victory for Woods, this one coming Sunday in the 103-degree temperatures of Oklahoma, this one coming in the 89th PGA Championship at a course where only five people broke par, one of them Tiger. This one coming with a final round of 1-under 69 for a 72-hole score of 8-under 292 and a two-shot edge over Woody Austin. Tiger’s 31 now, with 13 majors, with four PGA Championship titles, with a future that’s unlimited. This was the kid who at two years old was swinging a club on the Mike Douglas show as Bob Hope gawked. The kid who won three straight U.S. Junior Amateurs, who won three straight U.S. Amateurs.
The kid who has become the finest player in the history of the game, and now there can be no argument. He needed this PGA or he would have gone without a major in ’07. So, naturally, he got what he needed. He always does. “He knows he’s going to win,” said Arron Oberholser, who finished fifth, “and he knows you know he’s going to win.” Not long ago there was a Big Five in golf: Tiger, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Vijay Singh and Retief Goosen. Els made a run at Tiger on Sunday. But only a run. The Big Five once again is the Big One, the one and only.

Test results have not come back yet for Robin Roberts following her breast cancer surgery on Aug. 3, but the “Good Morning America” anchor is already back on the anchor desk. She looks great and says she is feeling great and looking forward to getting back to work,” said publicist Bridgette Maney. The 46-year-old former college basketball star announced her diagnosis to “GMA” viewers last week. She discovered a lump in her breast while performing a self-examination.

The recent photo of Whitney Houston and her ex-husband Bobby Brown emerging from a restaurant with “puffy eyes” last week has caused reaction from several sources close to the two singers. Based on their appearance in the picture, snapped as they were leaving Joe’s Crab Shack in Alpharetta, GA, TMZ wondered if Houston’s puffy eyes were the result of a drug relapse. “Certainly that’s his history, but Whitney is not back-sliding on her rehab,” a source told Fox411’s Roger Freidman. “She’s very committed to making this work. But when you share a child, you’re going to see the ex-spouse. It can’t be helped.” Houston’s publicist, Nancy Seltzer, confirmed to People that it was their daughter, 14-year-old Bobby Kristina, who instigated the outing, and that it did not signify the two singers are back together following a divorce. “They were there with their daughter,” said Seltzer. A relative of Brown’s added: “They’re still on good terms. They don’t hate each other. [But getting back together] is the furthest thing from their mind. That’s just not in the cards. They’ve got a history together, so they’ve got a lot to talk about. It’s as simple as that.”

Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Lopez were among the high-powered Hollywood folk enlisted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to hand out some $1.2 million in grants to film schools and nonprofit groups during a ceremony Thursday at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
Upon his arrival at the podium, Foxx shouted out all the Leos in the house – which included Lopez and actress Hilary Swank – then presented a $50,000 grant to Josh Brolin on behalf of FilmAid International. Brolin turned to the Oscar winner and said, “I’m so nervous, can you give me a hug for a second?” The teleprompter gave some of the celebs a bit of trouble during the evening, including Swank, who presented the first round of grants to a slew of universities. “I feel your pain,” said Lopez’s husband, Marc Anthony, as the couple presented the second round of checks with similar teleprompter problems. The HFPA, which hands out the Golden Globe awards each year, has given more than $7.5 million in grants over the past 13 years, according to president Jorge Camara. This year’s total is the largest ever distributed in the organization’s 65-year history.
