DIDDY SIGNS ON WITH MOVIE DEAL

Sean “Diddy” Combs, the man who discovered Brooklyn rapper Notorious B.I.G. and signed him to a record deal in 1992, has come aboard as an executive producer on Fox Searchlight’s biopic about the late hip hop star. George Tillman Jr. has been hired to direct the project, based on a script by hip-hop journalist Cheo Hodari Coker and filmmaker Reggie Rock Bythewood. Coker penned the biography “Unbelievable: The Life, Death and Afterlife of the Notorious B.I.G.” Tillman’s directing credits include “Men of Honor” and “Soul Food.” “We know he will make a brilliant movie and show the true humanity of Christopher Wallace’s character,” said Fox Searchlight President of Production Claudia Lewis, mentioning B.I.G.’s real name.
As previously reported, the studio picked up film rights in 1995. A nationwide casting call was launched Sunday encouraging anyone who resembles the late rapper to send in an audition tape, whether or not they have professional acting experience. The film will focus more on Wallace’s private life than his public persona.

MORE RUMORS FOLLOW MEL B’S HUSBAND

Entertainment columnist Janet Charlton is reporting a laundry list of bad behavior from Stephen Belafonte, the man who married Melanie Brown in a secret wedding ceremony last June. According to Charlton, the couple’s marriage certificate contains the name Stephen Belafonte, but his real last name is reportedly Stansbury. In the past he has tried to pass himself off as Dionne Warwick’s nephew and Harry Belafonte’s son, Charlton writes. He has criminal records in New Jersey, San Diego and Los Angeles, according to the column. The L.A. infractions include assault with a deadly weapon in Beverly Hills and vandalism and assault on a roommate in Hollywood. Charlton also suggests that there is more than one assault and battery charge against Belafonte than the one involving Nicole Contreras, the mother of his 3-year-old daughter, Giselle. “Does [Mel B] know how many ex-wives and girlfriends have charged him with assault and battery?” Charlton asks in her column. In 2006, the County of Los Angeles sued Belafonte to force him to pay $254 a month in child support for Giselle. Charlton writes: “He’s lived in four apartments in LA and the con artist was evicted from each one for not paying rent. He was 86’d from Skybar for some sort of credit card ‘problem.’ He also served time in jail for trying to alter his computer police records.”

BABYFACE FEELS FOR TRACEY AND EDDIE

“It’s not like I feel like a star or have ever really felt like that. A celebrity? Yeah, it gets me in restaurants and I can (go to the head of the line) at Disneyland. I like that part. But for me, I feel for Tracey and Eddie because of what they gotta go through. Everybody’s on them and now (that they’re engaged) they’re going to be on them even more. And I wouldn’t want that. That’s like a little too much for me with people all in your business with their opinions of you and what your life choices are. I am kinda happy being a b-list star. That’s OK to me. I like being a musician and a writer. I’m OK with that. I don’t need to be the hottest guy or being looked at as anything other than with respect. I feel blessed to be in the space that I’m in. Even with what me and Tracey went through as far as being separated and being divorced because it was, more or less, respectful to me. The press has been pretty respectful and that’s how I like to live.” Babyface’s upcoming release is titled “Playlist” and is scheduled to be released September 24.

O.J.’S ‘IF I DID IT’ TO BE PUBLISHED

O.J. Simpson’s cancelled book “If I Did It,” which told a hypothetical account of killing his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson, will soon arrive in bookstores courtesy of a New York publisher. A rep for literary agent Sharlene Martin said Monday she struck a deal on the controversial book on behalf of the family of Ron Goldman, who was murdered along with Brown Simpson at her Los Angeles home in 1994. The Goldman clan recently won rights to the book and has followed through with their plans to have it published.
“The (Goldman) family and publisher have pledged to leave Simpson’s manuscript entirely intact, but they will also add key commentary,” Michael Wright, the spokesman for Los Angeles-based Martin, said in a statement. The nature of the commentary was not disclosed. The Goldman family, the publisher and Martin will contribute portions of the proceeds to the Ron Goldman Foundation for Justice, Wright said.

MAN SUES 1-800-FLOWERS FOR EXPOSING HIS AFFAIR:
dozen-roses.jpg

Viewers of the “Today Show” Monday morning saw Leroy Greer and his lawyer Kennitra Foote attempt to explain the logic behind their $1 million lawsuit against 1-800-Flowers for inadvertently exposing him as a cheater. In his lawsuit, filed Aug 6 in Texas Southern District Court, Greer says he bought a dozen long-stemmed roses for his girlfriend through 1-800-Flowers, but requested that his purchase be kept private.
Greer began dating the woman after filing for divorce from his wife in January 2006. But a few months after the flowers were sent, Greer reconciled with his wife, and she moved back in to his Missouri City, Texas home, according to Foote. Soon, a thank-you note from 1-800-Flowers arrived in the mailbox and was picked up by Greer’s wife, Bernice. Confused, she phoned the company, and they faxed her the receipt for clairification. “Just wanted to say that I love you and you mean the world to me!” read the greeting from Greer to his girlfriend, whose name and address were included in the receipt for more than $100 in roses and a stuffed animal. Needless to say, Bernice Greer moved out again, continued with the divorce and is now requesting more money from the court because of her husband’s now-documented infidelity, according to Foote. Along the bottom of the fax, Greer’s wife apparently added her own comment, according to a copy included in the suit. “Be a man!” it began. “If you got caught red handed then don’t still lie. Your T-Mobile has her number so why still lie.” Greer’s is suing the company for breach of contract. He claims a sales representative promised him before his purchase that the company would not send notice of the transaction to his home or business. As a result of the infidelity claims, Greer’s wife is now asking for an additional $300,000, as well as $4,000 to $5,000 a month in child support for the boy the couple had together. “Infidelity is one of the things that would qualify as a pendulum-swinger in a divorce case,” Foote said. “And now the wife has cold, hard evidence, and it is solely because of 1-800-Flowers.” Meanwhile, the flower service has released the following statement regarding the case: “At 1-800-FLOWERS.COM, we take pride in creating relationships with our customers by recognizing and thanking them for their business,” the statement said. “We take all matters relating to our customers seriously; however, we are not responsible for an individual’s personal conduct. Beyond this, it is the company’s policy not to comment on pending litigation and legal matters.”
