Singer Mariah Carey is thrilled with the progress made on her forthcoming CD, the still untitled follow-up to her 2005 smash The Emancipation Of Mimi, which earned her three Grammy Awards.

“It’s hard for me to sit here and talk about it without sounding like I’m bragging if I’m in love with it, but I’m in love with this album,” Carey told about the new set, due in early 2008. “I think that having the success with the last record allowed me to have more freedom and just make records that I like. It’s kind of a really fun record.”

Carey is also in love with her new fragrance, M by Mariah Carey. The world of perfume is new to Carey, particularly because she wasn’t known to wear any in the past, but she says she was intrigued when she was approached by the Elizabeth Arden cosmetics company about creating a signature scent.

Carey wanted the perfume to incorporate her favorite scents, including Moroccan incense; a flower called the Living Tahitian Tiare; and the smell of toasted marshmallows, a memory from her childhood. “It’s blended in there — it’s not like you’re gonna walk around smelling like marshmallows,” Carey added.

Top male model Tyson Beckford will team with fellow model Niki Taylor to host the new reality TV competition, Make Me a Supermodel, scheduled to premiere early next year on Bravo. Based on a British series of the same name, Make Me A Supermodel will give 14 male and female hopefuls a chance a modeling contract and $100,000 while living in a New York City Loft.

Unlike Tyra Banks’ successful America’s Next Top Model, the finalists of the new series will be determined by viewer voting.

Beckford broke into modeling in 1994 via a Polo Sport campaign. He subsequently landed a multiyear contract with Ralph Lauren and has served as a spokesmodel for Polo Fragrances and Polo Sport.

He’s also developed a film career, appearing in Zoolander, Into the Blue and Biker Boyz.

Taylor, who’s been modeling since she was 14, is still the youngest model to appear on the cover of Vogue. She is now the mother of two, the owner of a Nashville boutique, and founder of Begin Foundation for the Advancement of Women in Business.

R&B singer Howard Hewett has a bona fide R&B adult hit with his latest single “Can U Feel Me?” from his new CD If Only. The single was Number 27 on the national urban AC radio chart last week, and ranks at Number 25 on Billboard’s Adult Airplay chart.

Hewett, who once sang with the pop group Shalamar, has long been known for his romantic ballads. The singer and songwriter says that many people think he writes songs from his own experience.

He explained: “Well a lot of people always ask me — you know I do a lot of romantic songs — ‘Are you that way?’ And when I think about it, in some ways I am that way. In some ways. Some things are things that I observe in other people’s relationships or other things going on in the world. And some things are ways that I wish I was, you know what I mean? You know, I wish I was that type of romantic person.”
