MANSION FOR SALE

kanye-in-shades.jpg

Grammy Award winner Kanye West has put his Los Angeles mansion up for sale for $8,699,000. Allhiphop.com reports that the home is 34,580 square feet and sits on an acre of land in the flats of Beverly Hills. West paid $7.2 million dollars for the mansion when he bought it in May of 2007. The house was built in 1921 and had not been placed on the market in over 45 years. Whoever purchases the property will most likely tear the house down to build a new one. The house was placed on the market just days before West’s mother, Dr. Donda West, died on November 10th.

VIEW FROM THE TOP IS PRETTY GOOD

Alicia Keys has topped the charts once again with her lead single from the new CD As I Am. The anthem-like tune “No One” was co-written by Keys with longtime collaborator Kerry “Krucial” Brothers. Keys explained that the tune was actually one of the last ones she created in the studio while recording with her collaborators. She said: “It was like by magic that this song was written. It was like this incredible, fun, amazing, yearning, determined, everything’s gonna be OK, it’s gon’ be good in the end, don’t worry about it, ‘oh oh oh oh oh,’ triumphant song. Magically it was there — poof. And I was in the booth singing it.”

JORDIN SPARKS TATOOED

American Idol champ Jordin Sparks just released her self-titled debut album last week. In addition to the Top 20 hit “Tattoo,” the set features an array of music that ranges from romantic ballads to dance tracks. Sparks even has a co-writing credit one of the set’s 13 songs. Getting everything together for the release wasn’t easy for the 17-year-old singer. Although she’s happy with the way things turned out, Sparks told us earlier this year that prepping the album was probably going to be a race to the very finish: “I’m actually feeling pretty good because at first when the tour started I was very scared and nervous. I didn’t know. I was just like, ‘Oh my gosh, how are we gonna get all this done? How am I gonna get all this done?’ And then they gave me some songs, and I fell in love with a lot of them. So I’m very excited about it because there are songs that I love. And it’s easy to record them. It’s coming up really fast but I have full confidence we’ll finish it by the time we have to.”

CHRIS MAKING THE KIDS HAPPY

Singer and actor Chris Brown has signed a production deal with the kids network Nickelodeon to create a reality TV series about his back-up dancers. According to BlackTalentNews.com, Brown’s show will focus on 11-year-old Scooter and 9-year-old Miles as they tour with Brown, who will also appear on camera. Brown’s manager, Tina Davis, will also executive produce the project, which has no title as yet.

HOWARD’S ON BROADWAY

Oscar nominee Terrence Howard has been confirmed to make his Broadway debut next year in the all-black revival of the Tennessee Williams classic, Cat On A Hot Tin Roof. Howard will portray Brick, the role immortalized on screen by Paul Newman. Debbie Allen will direct a cast that includes her sister, Phylicia Rashad, James Earl Jones, and Giancarlo Esposito when the production opens in February.

SLAPPING THE BOOTY GETS RODMAN SLAPPED

dennis-rodman.jpg

One-time NBA great Dennis Rodman has been slapped with a sexual harassment suit by a former beverage manager at the Hard Rock Hotel & Resort in Las Vegas. Sara Robinson claims in her federal suit that Rodman assaulted her last year by rubbing against her body and slapping her on the buttocks. She also accuses the Hard Rock management of unjustly firing her after she complained about Rodman’s behavior. Robinson says she was working at the hotel’s Cuba Libre lounge when Rodman, a guest at the hotel, climbed atop the bar to get her attention. “As Robinson stepped around the bar, Rodman grabbed her, pulled her towards him and rubbed his body against hers,” reads her complaint. “Robinson tried to get free from Rodman’s grasp at which time he assaulted her by reaching down and slapping her open-handed on the bottom.” Robinson further alleges that after enduring a similar incidence of Rodman misbehavior in the bar the following month, Robinson filled out a complaint statement. She was fired soon after. Damages were not specified in the lawsuit. This is not the first run-in that Rodman has had with the Las Vegas courts. In 2001, a Nevada jury ordered the outrageous basketballer to pay $80,000 to James Brasich, a former Mirage craps dealer who said Rodman humiliated him by rubbing dice on his head, chest, stomach and genitals during a craps game in October of 1997.
