They may have pretty faces, but the contestants from the latest cycle of “America’s Next Top Model” are being accused of living like pigs in the New York loft where they stayed for 10 weeks. According to the New York Post’s Page Six, landlord Michael Marvisi claims the show finished shooting three weeks ago and left his $6 million apartment with $500,000 worth of damages.
The crew, according to a source, “punched hundreds of holes in the ceiling to hang lighting equipment” and ruined the Brazilian wood floors, forcing the owner to tear them up and install all new flooring. “These girls not only destroyed the floors, it appears they had food fights. There’s ketchup and coffee splattered all over the landlord’s $20,000 white drapes. There’s lipstick on the walls,” said the insider. “They moved in furniture and made holes all along the walls.” The source also says the models damaged a $15,000 chandelier beyond repair and splashed so much water around, the bathroom was ruined and had to be tested for mold. “A plumber had to come fix the toilet and the water caused $90,000 worth of damage to the electrical store on the first floor,” said the source, who added that show producers also “skipped out on” a $1,500 electric bill. “The landlord is devastated,” the source said. “Three other shows approached him [to use the loft] and he turned them all down for ‘Top Model.’ And a tenant was supposed to move in a week ago, but when the place wasn’t ready, they pulled out. Tyra Banks should be ashamed of herself.” While damages are estimated to cost about $500,000, the show offered to settle for $125,000, but has not paid Marvisi any money, according to the source. The landlord is reportedly planning to file a lawsuit against the show.

Serena Williams’ first trip to India came with a victory in the 600,000-dollar WTA Bangalore Open on Sunday. The tennis star defeated Patty Schnyder of Switzerland 7-5, 6-3 in the women’s final match to earn her 29th career title. “It was so nice being in India and winning the title made it even better,” said Williams, a third seed who had beaten her sister Venus in the semi-finals on Saturday. “A week back I was not even sure I will be able to play, so to win my first title of the year makes it a very special visit.” Serena, ranked 11th in the world, took home a winner’s purse of $95,000 in a match lasting an hour and 25 minutes.

Rev. Al Sharpton was due in Florida yesterday to gather information for a possible lawsuit against the Democratic National Committee should it decide to count the state’s primary results in the presidential delegates tally. The party had promised to exclude Florida and Michigan from the nomination process after those states scheduled their primaries in January, earlier than party rules had allowed. But with both Democratic candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton within in reach of the party ticket, there is a possibility that the DNC will allow those primaries, both won by Sen. Clinton, to be included in the final delegates total.
Sharpton says it is unfair to count those primaries because some citizens deliberately stayed away from the polls believing their votes wouldn’t count. The civil rights activist was scheduled to compile lists of Florida residents who skipped the January contest believing it wouldn’t matter. Rev. Sharpton has not endorsed a presidential candidate, but his efforts in Florida are widely viewed as benefiting Sen. Obama, who has won more delegates overall than Sen. Clinton.

On Monday in Columbus, Mississippi, Sen. Barack Obama delivered a rather amusing answer to Hillary and Bill Clinton’s suggestions in recent days that he could run as the former First Lady’s vice president. “Now first of all with all due respect, with all due respect,” he said here during a town hall meeting. “I won twice as many states as Sen. Clinton. I won more of the popular vote than Sen. Clinton. I have more delegates than Sen. Clinton. So I don’t’ know how someone in second place can offer the vice presidency to someone in first place. If I was in second place I could understand but I am in first place right now. He reminded the audience of Bill Clinton’s comments in 1992 that his “most important criteria” for vice president was that person must be ready to be commander in chief. “They have been spending the last two or three weeks” arguing that he is not ready to be commander in chief, Obama said. “I don’t understand. If I am not ready, how is it that you think I should be such a great vice president?” Obama asked the crowd, which gave him a standing ovation during his defense. “I don’t understand.” “You can’t say he is not ready on day one, then you want him to be your vice president,” Obama continued. “I just want everybody to absolutely clear: I am not running for vice president. I am running to be president of the United States of America.” Obama was in Mississippi to campaign for that states primary which is being held today. (Tuesday)
