With all the talk about hip hop being dead, indie label Thug Life Army Records sets forth a project that proves hip hop is alive and well: outside the boundary of corporate ‘boardroom’ hip hop. ‘In the Shadow of an Icon’ is an amazing tribute to the teachings and thought process of hip hop icon; rapper, activist, poet Tupac Shakur (2Pac). Tupac connected with the street because he was from the street and understood the messages that the street needed to hear.
Artist from all across the country including California, New York, Georgia, Texas, St. Louis as well as Canada have contributed to this project set in the mindset of Tupac Shakur (2Pac).
‘In The Shadow of an Icon’ brings no bling, or spinning rims, no meaningless repetitive hooks – just good quality hip hop with a message from unsigned artists relevant to hip hop culture in a time when real thought provoking hip hop seems to have left the scene. The album is available for digital download on Itunes, Umusic and all other on line download sources. In stores nationwide.

Ultra conservative Rupert Murdoch and his wife, Windi, not only attended an unabashedly liberal party for Arianna Huffington, but he was reportedly overheard at the function praising Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. While mingling at Huffington’s fete for her book “Right Is Wrong: How the Lunatic Fringe Hijacked America, Shredded the Constitution, and Made Us All Less Safe,” Murdoch approached the author and started chatting enthusiastically about Obama’s strong showing in the Indiana and North Carolina primaries. “It’s a great day for Obama. Very good. The wall broke,” Murdoch said, according to the Daily News’ Rush & Malloy column.” Huffington, a former Republican, has known Murdoch for 30 years. Some Murdoch-watchers have gone so far as to speculate that one or more of his newspapers may endorse Obama over John McCain. One confidant cautions: “Rupert really does admire Obama. But he hasn’t decided yet about endorsements.”

Michael Jackson has officially announced that tomorrow’s scheduled auction of his Neverland Ranch has been cancelled. The property’s existing $23.5 million loan from New York-based private equity and hedge fund Fortress Investment Group was acquired by Colony Capital, a large real estate investment firm. “I am pleased with recent developments involving Neverland Ranch and I am in discussions with Colony and Tom Barrack with regard to the Ranch and other matters that would allow me to focus on the future,” Jackson said in a statement. The 2,700-acre property in Santa Barbara County was slated to be auctioned off on May 14 after Jackson defaulted on loan payments. Colony, a Los Angeles-based firm that has invested more than $39 billion since its founding in 1991, tells Reuters that it’s “very comfortable” holding the loan while negotiating new mortgage payment terms for the King of Pop.
