HOUSEWIVES ADDS XSCAPE CLAUSE

Kandi Burruss

Kandi Burruss

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Kandi Burruss of the 90s R&B group Xscape will join the cast of Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” replacing fired housewife DeShawn Snow for the show’s second season.

The signer-songwriter will join NeNe, Kim, Sheree, and Lisa on the popular program that became Bravo’s highest rated freshman series since “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” back in 2003.

Burruss became famous with the platinum-selling girl group Xscape, which also included sisters LaTocha and Tamika Scott, as well as Burruss’ best friend Tameka “Tiny” Cottle (who’s married to rap superstar T.I.).

As a songwriter, Burruss wrote TLC’s 1999 smash hit “No Scrubs” and has also penned jams for Mariah Carey, Destiny’s Child, Boyz II Men, Alicia Keys, and Faith Evans. The singer-songwriter has a daughter, 6-year-old Riley, from a previous relationship, and a boyfriend.

The first season of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” was the second highest rated “Real Housewives” season ever, behind only season 3 of “The Real Housewives of Orange County.” It averaged 1.3 million viewers per episode and scored the highest rated “Real Housewives” franchise telecast ever, with 2.2 million viewers.

SHEILA E WINS COUNTRY AWARD

Shelia E

Look out Taylor Swift. Sheila E. may be eyeing a country music takeover after winning CMT’s fish-out-of-water reality show “Gone Country,” beating fellow contestants George Clinton, Taylor Dayne, Justin Guarini and others.

The “Glamorous Life” singer and early Prince protégé says her winning song “Glorious Train,” penned with Nashville songwriters Angie Aparo and James Slater and produced by show host John Rich, are just the first steps in her new foray into country, reports People.com. [Scroll down to watch video.]

Her victorious run may have never happened had she listened to her pal Prince, who expressed confusion when she told him of her decision to join the series, in which a celebrity cast competes to write and record a country tune.

“He asked me why in the heck would I do this show,” the Grammy-nominated singer tells People. She explained to her former mentor that the chance to work with Nashville’s famed songwriters drew her to the show, “So he said, ‘Okay, well, mama knows best!'”

EARTH WIND AND FIRE ANNOUNCE 30-CITY TOUR

Earth Wind and Fire

Earth Wind and Fire

Music legends Earth, Wind & Fire and Chicago will reunite for a 30-city national co-headlining summer concert tour, beginning June 5 in Orange Beach, AL.

The two bands teamed up for the first time in 2004 and 2005. A DVD filmed in 2005 of their Los Angeles shows was certified double platinum almost immediately upon release.

“The Chicago-Earth, Wind & Fire shows are magic and bring out the best in all of us – from the musicians onstage to the fans dancing in the aisles,” says EWF’s founding member Philip Bailey. “We can’t wait to get out there with our friends again.”

The 2009 Summer Tour will be presented by AEG Live. Each band will perform a full set, and the two bands will come together at the beginning of the night and for a final set that features both bands onstage together.
