Leadership Academy

Leadership Academy

For the second time in two years, allegations of sexual abuse have plagued Oprah Winfrey’s school for girls in South Africa.

According to local newspaper “Afrikaans on Sunday,” seven students were suspended last week for sexually harassing their schoolmates.

One 15-year-old was accused of preying on another student and forcing other girls to lie to investigators about it, the paper reported. Other girls were said to be caught fondling each other or trying to get other girls to join them in sexual activity.

A letter sent to one of the suspended girls’ parents reportedly read, “You have been found guilty of physical contact of a sexual nature with another pupil on campus, harassment, bullying other girls on campus and of being dishonest by not telling investigators the whole truth.”

Oprah’s spokesperson, Lisa Halliday, confirmed the girls had been suspended from the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy School for Girls – but gave few details. “It is because they contravened the school’s code of conduct,” she said. “We regard the incident as confidential.”

Winfrey opened the school in 2007, calling it the proudest day of her life. About 10 months later, 15 girls reported they had been sexually abused by a matron, Virginia Tiny Mokgobo, 27. She denies the charges and is due back in court on June 1.

Andre 3000

Andre 3000

Outkast member Andre 3000 was pulled over and arrested by police outside of Atlanta Saturday morning for driving his 2007 Porsche Carrera 109 mph, leading one officer to label him “an accident waiting to happen.”

Atlanta’s WSB-TV reported that the rapper-actor, whose real name is Andre Benjamin, was clocked by police on Interstate 75, which has a 65-mph speed limit.

“Traveling that fast along 75, you’re passing people as if they’re standing still,” Henry County Police Captain Jason Bolton told WSB. “It’s an accident waiting to happen.”

The artist was released after posting $1,200 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 29.

According to, the arrest comes as State Representative Jim Cole is lobbying for a new “Super Speeder” bill to be passed in the state of Georgia. The law will force violators to pay an additional $200 fine for driving at more than 85 miles an hour on highways and four-lane roads. Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue has said he supports the bill and intends to sign it into law in the coming months.

Representative Cole told WSB that he hopes Andre will help rally support behind the bill. “He might be willing to help us market it,” Cole told the station.

Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama

U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama will join France’s Carla Bruni-Sarkozy (scroll down for photo) on Saturday for a visit to Strasbourg Cathedral, diplomats told AFP.

As Western leaders converge on the eastern French city of Strasbourg for a NATO summit, paparazzi are sure to set their sights on the high-profile pair, whose style and personalities have grabbed world headlines.

Obama and Bruni-Sarkozy will join other NATO leaders’ partners for a midday visit of the Gothic jewel and a nearby art restoration centre, after touring a cancer research institute.

Built from the 12th to 15th centuries, Strasbourg Cathedral was for centuries the tallest building in Christendom, with a north spire towering at 142 metres (310 feet).

Twenty-eight heads of state and government are set to descend on Strasbourg and Kehl across the German border for the summit marking NATO’s 60th anniversary.

Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer Hudson, who was scheduled to launch her tour with Robin Thicke last night in Albany, NY, is also preparing to kick off another huge project – the planning of her wedding.

The artist is set to wed boyfriend David Otunga, after he proposed on the star’s 27th birthday. And Hudson has decided that rather than approach a famous designer about her wedding dress, she wants to create her own.

“I’m gonna design my own dress. I want to design it… Definitely classic, more traditional than anything,” she said, according to WENN. “I want it to be nice and traditional, but very classy, very classy.”
