Paula Abdul

Paula Abdul

TMZ says it has the lowdown on what went down between Paula Abdul and the suits at “American Idol.”

Apparently, as we reported yesterday, the vibe between them, as they negotiated a new contract was so bad, she had a Paula moment and up and bolted.

It seems the folks on the other side of the table from her found out she was through with them via Twitter just like the rest of the world did.

Supposedly Ms. Abdul was banking somewhere between $2 and $3 million a year and she wanted more. TMZ’s sources say “A.I.” made her an offer that she didn’t like at all. Paula countered but producers didn’t want to pay that much, so they countered with another offer.

Rather than responding to the second offer, that’s when Paula responded by tweeting her adios. Did she think about the repercussions? Maybe she did and maybe she didn’t. We all know Paula is shall we say, “flighty” to the nth degree and then some. The bottom line is that the folks at “AI” took her seriously and also said thank you and goodbye via their official statement.

But being cute and “Straight Up” crazy, Paula has still got some options ’cause when you get right down to it, Hollywood loves crazy. Add that to the fact that she’s a household name and easy to look at, she’ll have offers flying at her.

In particular, the word on the street is that producer Nigel Lythgoe has given her a standing offer to be a guest judge on “So You Think You Can Dance.” We think it would be a good move. If she stays “crazy,” but acts “right,” she could be making Simon and Ryan Seacrest money.

Which reminds us to tell you that there’s another school of thought going around that she just might still end up on “AI” with the raise she wants.

You see, according to the Hollywood Reporter, insiders wonder how Abdul’s exit may impact the DNA of the show. She’s really, really popular with “AI” fans

Abdul’s unpredictability and sibling-like relationship with Simon Cowell were seen as a major draw. Need we say more?
