PRESIDENT OBAMA REFLECTS ON FIRST YEAR

President and Oprah

If you were watching ABC’s “Oprah’s Christmas at the White House” special Sunday night, you saw the Prez matter-of-factly answer Oprah when she asked Obama what grade he would give himself for his first year in office.

“A good solid B-plus,” the President answered, and went on to explain how he arrived at the mark:

“I think we have inherited the biggest set of challenges of any president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt. We stabilized the economy … We are on our way out of Iraq. I think we’ve got the best possible plan for Afghanistan. We have reset our image around the world.”

“And” Obama concluded, “I think that we’re going to pass the most significant piece of social legislation since social security, and that’s health insurance for every America.”

OK, so why only B-plus, Oprah quizzed?

“B-plus because of the things that are undone. Health care is not yet signed,” the president smiled and said. “If I get health care passed we tip into A minus.”

BLACK PRINCESS LEADS BOX OFFICE

Princess and the Frog

Morgan Freeman, Matt Damon and Sandra Bullock were forced to bow down this weekend for Disney’s first African American princess.

“The Princess and the Frog” which expanded nationwide Friday, earned $25 million to take over the top box office spot from Bullock’s “The Blind Side,” which slipped to No. 2 with 15.5 million.

Clint Eastwood’s Nelson Mandela drama “Invictus,” starring Freeman and Damon, emerged from the scrum in third place with $9.1 million.

“Frog,” the Disney animated musical, stars Anika Noni Rose as the voice of a young woman in 1920s New Orleans who’s turned into a frog by a kiss from an amphibian.

Chicago’s CBS2 News interviewed a number of young black girls – some dressed in tiaras – as they lined up to view the first African-American princess make her Disney debut
