Wu-Tang Clan rapper Method Man has reached a plea deal with prosecutors in New York, after he was arrested in May and charged with possession of marijuana. Method Man, born Clifford Smith, was arrested on May 17, when officers stopped his 2005 Lincoln Navigator for having an expired inspection sticker. When the arresting officer approached the vehicle, he smelled a strong odor of marijuana. A search of the SUV found 28 grams of marijuana in the car. Method Man was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, criminal possession of marijuana, operating a motor vehicle under the influence and driving an uninspected motor vehicle. As part of his plea agreement, the 36-year-old rapper will join New York’s Choices and Consequence program as part of his community service. Method Man will create raps for children, warning about the dangers of drug use.

CHALLENGE ISSUESD TO 50 CENT

Country music superstar Kenny Chesney recently reminded 50 Cent and Kanye West that his 11th album Just Who I Am: Poets and Pirates is also a contender for the #1 spot on Sept. 11, the same day the two world famous rappers’ albums hits stores. ”It’s funny how with every record that comes out, we’re aware of the urban [competition], and none of those acts acknowledge that I exist, until I have that No. 1 debut on the Top 200,” Chesney told EW. The country music star’s album should give 50 Cent and Kanye West good cause to worry, as it could relegate either Curtis or Graduation to third place on the Billboard Top 200 chart. Chesney’s last four albums have debuted at #1. “This is great promotion for Kanye West to make you think that we can be compared on any level,” 50 told AllHipHop.com.

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ movie adaptation of Lorraine Hansberry’s play “A Raisin in the Sun” will air as an “ABC Premiere Event” following the network’s broadcast of The 80th Annual Academy Awards. The three-hour television movie version of “A Raisin in the Sun” is executive produced by Combs and features the rapper/actor/mogul as the character Walter Lee Jr., a role originally played by Sidney Poitier. The dramatic play centers around a family struggling on the Southside of Chicago in the 1950’s awaiting a $10,000 life insurance check, which everyone is eager to spend. In addition to Combs, “A Raisin in the Sun” was executive produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, producers of hit film “Hairspray” and executive producers of the Oscar winning movie “Chicago.” “A Raisin in the Sun” will air on Monday, February 25 from 8:00 PM – 11:00 PM.

MICHAEL VICK TO PLEAD GUILTY NEXT MONDAY

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick has made the decision to plead guilty to federal dogfighting conspiracy charges following a weekend of weighing options that would have the least affect on his football career. “After consulting with his family over the weekend, Michael Vick asked that I announce today that he has reached an agreement with federal prosecutors regarding the charges pending against him,” lead defense attorney Billy Martin said Monday in a statement. “Mr. Vick has agreed to enter a plea of guilty to those charges and to accept full responsibility for his actions and the mistakes he has made. Michael wishes to apologize again to everyone who has been hurt by this matter.” Vick is charged with conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities and conspiracy to sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture. He had pleaded not guilty last month and vowed to clear his name at a November trial.
Three of his co-defendants have accepted deals to plead guilty and had agreed to help prosecutors with their case against Vick. Quanis Phillips of Atlanta and Purnell Peace of Virginia Beach signed statements saying the 27-year-old Atlanta Falcons star participated in executing at least eight underperforming dogs by various means, including drowning and hanging. Phillips, Peace and Tony Taylor, who pleaded guilty last month, also said Vick provided virtually all of the gambling and operating funds for his “Bad Newz Kennels” operation in rural Virginia. Martin’s announcement came as a grand jury that could add new charges met in private. Prosecutors had said that a superseding indictment was in the works, but Vick’s plea most likely means he will not face additional charges. Vick’s plea hearing is Aug. 27. The offense is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

OMAROSA RETURNS FOR NEW SEASON OF ‘APPRENTICE’

Omarosa will try once again to work for Donald Trump in a new celebrity version of NBC’s “The Apprentice” that will also feature Kimora Lee Simmons and former heavyweight boxing champion, George Foreman. “There are more than a hundred others who want to be on the show,” Trump told the New York Post. However, he’s hoping three more celebs – Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan – will agree to join the cast of “Celebrity Apprentice. We’re negotiating with Britney right now. Can you imagine her doing it?” Trump told Page Six. “We’re not sure what will happen. She’s a f***ing mess. And that little reality show she had did nothing. But she likes the idea of being on television and I think she’d be great.” Recent jail inmate Hilton, he says, “wants to be on, and we’re thinking about it, but I don’t know if we’re going to do it.” As for Lohan, currently in rehab, Trump says: “Another f***ing mess. We haven’t asked her yet, but I’m going to call her this week. It would a positive thing for her to do . . . for all of them.” Trump mentioned several months ago that he would be interested in having his arch-enemy Rosie O’Donnell join the cast, but the former co-host of “The View” responded with the quote: “It will not happen in this lifetime or beyond.” Other confirmed celebrities to appear next season include Jim Cramer, Carmen Electra, Joan Rivers, Naomi Judd, Pete Rose, Dana Patrick, Tony Hawk and Jeff Gordon. The stars will compete each week to raise money for various charities.
